Marquee Moon! my fave song clocking over the 10-minute mark.

I’d put some DMB live recordings like #41 from Listener Supported here and more TMV and Tool tracks as well.

I’d add a few more songs:

“Alice’s Restaurant” by Arlo Guthrie is 18+ minutes long. The song is a rambling mess of misadventure.

“Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugarhill Gang. Loved that song. The radio always cut it up into pieces.

“American Pie” by Don McLean at about 8 or so minutes. I don’t know what the song means but I don’t care. I still like it.

“Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin is another 8 minute song. I like Zep, and for the record, in the movie “Wayne’s World,” he tried to play the song but a store employee pointed to the sign that said No Stairway. Wayne likes the song but he was denied.

“Rime of the Ancient Mariner” by Iron Maiden was one of my favorite songs. How could it not be a long song? The poem goes on forever.

Other lengthy songs worth mentioning:

“Fade to Black” by Metallica
“One” by Metallica
“Love Song” by Tesla

Thank goodness Goodrich included Television’s immortal classic “Marquee Moon.” Still one of the greatest records of all-time. “Little Johnny Jewel (Parts 1 & 2)” is another Television tune clocking in around 7 minutes that rules. I agree with Ray Gun, Springsteen’s “Jungleland” is untouchable. Other long songs that kick ass:

The Stooges – Fun House (7:44)

The Who – Won’t Get Fooled Again (8:33)

My Morning Jacket – Lay Low (6:05)

The Mars Volta – Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt (8:42)

and of course… Kanye West – We Major (7:29)

There’s a classic rock radio part of my heart that actually likes Freebird and Stairway, but if I heard either right now I’d probably switch it to something else.

I can’t really argue the point that The Doors suck donkey balls. But I do have irrational love for The End. . .maybe it’s the Apocalypse Now connection. I’m not sure. It’s ridiculous, but I always find myself listening to the whole song.

Paranoid android’s video always creeped me out. Pelvic thrusts and amputations left and right. But i’ve never thought of it as a particularly long song. Nearly 6.5 minutes, but you’d never know it.

And you nailed it with bohemian rhapsody.

nice list. And as another wayne’s world reference, “NO Stairway to Heaven.”
