ATH Show Picks: Funx3 Fest Nites

The Fun Fun Fun Fest powers that be announced recently that all after shows this year would be completely free for anyone holding a festival wristband.  You can agree or disagree with me if you like, but that’s just about one of the most bad ass ideas I’ve ever heard.  Leave it to the Transmission guys to continually outdo themselves year after year… So now that the festival is officially here, let us take a closer look at these Fun Fest Nites and give you a nightly recommendation on where we think you should be.  Obviously these are just our picks and not intended as a fully detailed guide.  For a complete listing of the Nites lineup, head to the official site.  Follow the jump for our recs.

Thursday: Sleepercar, Jesse Malin, Cowboy & Indian, and Lights Go Out @ The ND (Doors 9pm)

Verdict: The Ty Segall show at Mohawk is tempting, but Jim Ward is a mini hero of mine.

Friday: The Thermals, Lemuria, Ume, David Liebe Hart @ The Parish (Doors 9:30pm)

Verdict: Cold Cave, Glass Candy & Big Freedia at Mohawk should be cool , but I don’t pass up chances to see The Thermals.

Saturday: Neon Indian DJ, Purity Ring, Memoryhouse, and Keep Shelly in Athens @ Empire Automotive (Doors 9:30pm)

Verdict: I’d also recommend the Mates of State/Generationals show at the Parish.  Memoryhouse not playing the festival seals it for me.

Sunday: Dom, Royal Bangs, Pujol, Bearhands @ Red 7 (Doors 9:30pm)

Verdict: The Oh Sees at Beerland could easily become my top choice over the weekend.
