SXSW Interviews: Yukon Blonde
Yukon Blonde continue are SXSW interviews today. The band, while never featured on our site, are a worthy garage rock/punk band that you’ll definitely want to give a listen to this week during the festival. Band member John Jeffry was kind enough to answer our round of SXSW questions and his answers can be found after the jump.
ATH: What is the most challenging thing about being a band during SXSW or another similar festival?
YB: Getting people to pay attention I suppose, so many amazing bands playing at the Same time it’s easy to get swept under the rug
ATH: What are some tips you would offer newbie bands to survive during SXSW or just in general on tour?
YB: We got a tip from a band a while ago an we’ve been using it as of late. The band was shout out out out out and the tip was just put your head down and party through it, not necessarily in a drinking party sense but just trying to enjoy it as it comes
ATH: What music are you guys currently jamming in your tour bus?
YB: All sorts.. Lots of mo town lately because we’re playing at a friends wedding in the fall and the plan is a Motown/Stax repertoire.
ATH: Who wins the Euro Cup this summer? It’s okay to tell us you hate soccer.
YB: Arsenal, or maybe Man U.. We don’t really follow soccer though
ATH: Due to licensing, you’ve had to change the band name, or else you get sued! What do you change it to?
YB: Lucid living.. That was the first thing I saw when I looked around the room, its a book my Timothy freke apparently.. I Haven’t read it but according the preface it’s a book you can read in an hour and it will turn your world inside out.. Cool
ATH: It’s fairly early in the musical year. What’s in store for your band before the world ends in December?
YB: Tour.. Hopefully a couple more trips to Europe, with any luck back to Australia in Canada’s colder months
ATH: What’s the best pre-show beverage for the band? Let’s get brand specific! And, what’s the worst free shot we can buy you at SXSW?
YB: Pre show beverage, some water I guess would be most appropriate, but we usually end up with some kind of cheap beer, pabst or old Milwaukee or something along those lines.. Worst shot? A sugar drop probably.. Or Irish car bomb, those make me sick
ATH: Being out on tour, what’s the one thing you miss about being back at home?
YB: Friends , family, girlfriends.. The usual
