SXSW Interviews: Hooray For Earth

Another SXSW has come and gone, but we’ve still got another few interviews to bring your way before we call it quits.  Today we’ve got one from Hooray for Earth who came into town last week and apparently turned some heads with their live show.  Band member Chris Principe took the time to answer our round of SXSW questions for us and we greatly appreciate it.  Check out his answers after the jump.

ATH: What is the most challenging thing about being a band during SXSW or another similar festival?

HFE: Mostly just logistics and execution.  If you are playing multiple shows a day like we are it’s a huge challenge to navigate around town.  There are a zillion people out walking around and lots of roads are closed too.  It’s also hard not to eat copious amounts of questionable street tacos.

ATH: What are some tips you would offer newbie bands to survive during SXSW or just in general on tour?

HFE: Drink water dudes.

ATH: What music are you guys currently jamming in your tour bus?

HFE: Noel always commands the jams.  He usually plays Broadcast, Aphex Twin, Plaid, and Eno.  We also like yelling and screaming when we get the “van crazies.”

ATH: Who wins the Euro Cup this summer? It’s okay to tell us you hate soccer.

HFE: We have no idea about these sports.

ATH: Due to licensing, you’ve had to change the band name, or else you get sued! What do you change it to?

HFE: The Strokes

ATH: It’s fairly early in the musical year.  What’s in store for your band before the world ends in December?

HFE: If all goes well there will be a new full length from us.

ATH: What’s the best pre-show beverage for the band? Let’s get brand specific! And, what’s the worst free shot we can buy you at SXSW?

HFE: Tecate and a shot of Hornitos tequila.  Don’t take any shot that is served in a fluorescent colored test tube.

ATH: Being out on tour, what’s the one thing you miss about being back at home?

HFE: Everything.

ATH: Best band of all time is….?

HFE: Dr. Beukenheimer  (Worcester, MA metal band circa early 90’s)
