Show Pics: Little Dragon/Big Boi @Fader #Uncapped

When I get an invite to shoot any Fader event, I usually take it. Fader has a history of being good to press and throwing a pretty solid party. I am pretty sure the party-side of even the most earnest hipster has been corrupted by shenanigans at The Fader Fort.

As part of an ad campaign with Vitamin Water called Uncapped, there are a series of pop-up parties with unknown artists. Each event featured an odd mashup of styles. For Austin, Little Dragon was the live show, A-Trak hosted the dance party and Big Boi made an appearance. The Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex played host.

Read on for a couple thoughts and plenty of pics. (great light, btw)

After check-in, +1 took her location up on the riser behind the soundboard and I made my way to the pit. Great lights filled the stage as Little Dragon busted out an extended SxSW-styled set, very similar albeit shuffled to the 2011 showcase at Lustre Pearl. “Ritual Union” opened and was my jam. Big Boi joined them on stage for the “encore”, a song called “Mama Told Me”. Cool? Sure.

A-Trak then stood up behind a giant box and did his thing. Spinning, a little knob-turning, I really wish we could actually see his gear to get an idea of the sauce being poured. Checking twitter after, his set was a mixed reaction of dance party or whiskey tango foxtrot moar Big Boi.

We took an early leave, bracing for the pending hump-day, despite the threat of another Big Boi appearance. If we missed, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings. We got our money’s worth with that sweet Little Dragon set alone.

Plenty more pics at the photo site. Scroll past to check out a few scenery shots from the Lytro.
