ACL Preview: Rey Pila

Rey Pila

Once again ACL Festival weekend has crept ever closer and I can’t say I’m fully ready just yet.  Of course I still have a couple of weeks to prep which should be plenty of time to get my mind and body ready for another festival.  As always, we will do our best to offer some advice, spotlight some bands we like, and also interview those bands we like.  So today I’m going to begin my coverage with a short bit on my current favorite band out of Mexico, Rey Pila.  Follow the jump for more.

Any reader of this site knows that I’ve been on the Rey Pila bandwagon for quite a long time at this point.  The band kicked off around 2010 and I can honestly say I’ve been a fan since back then in their dancier pop days.  Over the years though, the band has certainly evolved, matured, and refined their sound.  Morphing from a primarily dance-pop band, Rey Pila have since become this pop inspired, synth heavy, layered electronic band.  Think Joy Division with a much heavier pop influence.  You can experience all these crazy adjectives I’m using on the band’s latest LP entitled The Future Sugar due out this Friday.  Pre-order here.

Check our interview with the band from last year’s ACL.

You can catch a set by Rey Pila on Friday the 2nd at 4pm over on the Tito’s Stage.
