We continue are SXSW roll out with another interview, this time from Spanish artists Aries. This is our first artist to answer from overseas/outside of the States, highlighting the importance of SXSW and its international outreach. Get to know Aries below.
ATH: Whats the name of the band/group? Where are you from?
A: Aries, Im from Spain.
ATH: Describe your groups sound.
A:Thats very difficult for me.. My new album has a sticker that says:
Mind traveling sunshine pop and inventive electronics from Spain to listen while dancing around a fire. I like it <3
ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases from 2019?
A: My new album drops on April 16th. It is called Juramento Mantarraya and will be released by La Castanya and K Records.
ATH:For most SXSW sets, you get 30 minutes to leave a lasting impression. Whats your plan of attack? You have a set list mapped out yet?
A: Im just gonna play my favorite songs from all my albums and do my best.
ATH: Lets say your band has been booked an official showcase at a pop up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrash metal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd seems angry at the world. How would your band deal with such a situation?
A: I think I’ve already been through that kind of situation, haha, so it is no big deal. I`d just play and have fun and try to make people less angry.
ATH: There are tons of bands coming into town. Of the 1000+ bands coming into town, who would you ideally like to play with. What band friends will be here?
A: I’d like to play with Yawners and Baywaves.
ATH: What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus?
A: Toot and the Maytals, Elia y Elizabeth and Frank Ocean.
ATH:Describe your perfect festival, real or not? Whos headlining? Wheres it take place? Etc.
A: It would take place in San Simon Island, a little island in Galicia where there is a festival already called Sinsal. And the headliners would be: Shabazz Palaces, Brian Wilson, Lorenzo Senni, Frank Ocean and Gilberto Gil.
ATH: Whats on the bands rider? If were bringing you food and booze, what can we bring you?
A:In the rider theres only water and chocolate candy. I dont drink alcohol, but I smoke weed.
ATH: The band gets to create their own taco pop-up shop at SXSW? Whats the name, and what sort of tacos will you have? Any sides?
A: It will have veggie tacos, each one with name of a sign of the zodiac. The Gemini Taco is delicious, for example.
