SXSW Interview: Disq

I think this might be the last interview of the SXSW season; everyone’s in town, so you should read up on last time, grab your friends and go see as many wonderful people as you possibly can. We present you with DISQ, who is high on everyone’s list, so do your best to see them before they’re too big to play your backyard BBQ!

ATH: What’s the name of the band? Where are you from?

Disq:Disq, from Madison Wisconsin.

ATH: Describe your sound.

Disq: Thematically edging on emo but melodically a bit more optimistic. We have three whole guitar players and they each turn their amps up to 10.

ATH: What’s your most recent release? Any plans for future 2019 releases?

Disq: Our latest release was a 7 single with Saddle Creek Records Communication b/w Parallel.

ATH:For most SXSW sets, you get 30 minutes to leave a lasting impression. Whats your plan of attack? You have a set list mapped out yet?

Disq: Plan of attack is to keep the banter minimal and hold direct eye-contact with the audience as much as possible.

ATH:Lets say your band has been booked an official showcase at a pop up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrash metal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd seems angry at the world. How would your band deal with such a situation?

Disq: GO EPIC STYLE.

ATH: There are tons of bands coming into town. Of the 1000+ bands coming into town, who would you ideally like to play with. What band friends will be here?

Disq: Wed love to play with Deerhunter or Black Midi. Our pals in Slow Pulp will be down there but honestly, we just dont have that many friends! The best band in the world, Sloppy Jane, was scheduled to come down but theyre fucking off to tour with Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst. Which makes sense.

ATH: What’s everyone been listening to in the van/car/bus?

Disq: Shame, Girlpool, Sarah McLachlan, The Spirit Of The Beehive, Tim Buckley, Kraftwerk. What plays in the van: Back To Back by Drake, Win by Jay Rock, and Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough by Michael Jackson.

ATH: Describe your perfect festival, real or not? Whos headlining? Wheres it take place? Etc.

Disq: Perfect festival is called Epicpalooza at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and involves The Beatles reuniting but it’s actually just the Foo Fighters with Paul McCartney.

ATH: What’s on the band’s rider? What can folks bring you?

Disq:Mexican food, White Claw, and ants-on-a-log.

ATH: The band gets to create their own taco pop-up shop at SXSW? Whats the name, and what sort of tacos will you have? Any sides?

Disq: Epit Style Tacos. Sides being served: White Claw and ants-on-a-log.
