SXSW Interviews: The Ninth Wave

You may have thought our SXSW interviews were over, but you thought wrong! While most of these bad boys ran prior to last week, I did pick up a couple near the end of the festival. This one comes from Glasgow based group The Ninth Wave, who also appeared on my Top 6 to watch list. Ready for one more? Hit the jump.

ATH: Whats the name of the band/group? Where are you from?

NW: We are TheNinthWavefrom Glasgow, Scotland

ATH: Describe your groups sound.

NW: If post-punk wore latex gloves

ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases from 2019?

NW: We released our first single of the year Half Pure in January, and have another single coming out on Friday! Watch this space for whats to come..

ATH: For most SXSW sets, you get 30 minutes to leave a lasting impression. Whats your plan of attack? You have a set list mapped out yet?

NW: 30 minutes of thrashing around in a kilt with no boxers on, lots of spitting and sweet sweet rock n roll

ATH: Lets say your band has been booked an official showcase at a pop up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrash metal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd seems angry at the world. How would your band deal with such a situation?

NW: Spit on everybody and everything

ATH: There are tons of bands coming into town. Of the 1000+ bands coming into town, who would you ideally like to play with. What band friends will be here?

NW: Billie Eilish would be mental – her energy is so infectious and shes only 17!! Were over here with our good pals Lucia, so it’s an amazing experience to do with people you love. Weve just been on tour with Whenyoung and are about to tour with The Blinders so looking forward to seeing them!

ATH: What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus?

NW: A mixture of Black Marble, The Twilight Sad and Sweet Home Alabama

ATH: Describe your perfect festival, real or not? Whos headlining? Wheres it take place? Etc.

NW: Somewhere where it never rains so you dont have to wear wellies unlike every UK festival. Everything is free, but theres no queues so you dont miss any bands. AC/DC are co-headlining with Depeche Mode, and right before that Cocteau Twins are playing.

ATH: Whats on the bands rider? If were bringing you food and booze, what can we bring you?

NW: Skittles and Buckfast, by the dozens

ATH: The band gets to create their own taco pop-up shop at SXSW? Whats the name, and what sort of tacos will you have? Any sides?

NW: Fat Sausage Tacos, selling only vegan tacos with loaded nachos on the side. Every order comes with a napkin that has a photo of Haydn as a little piggy printed on it so you can wipe your face

Thanks again guys! Hey in other news, The Ninth Wave just announced a new album entitled Infancy coming on April 26th. Here’s the first single “Used to Be Yours” from the release.
