Levitation Interviews: A Place to Bury Strangers

Remember yesterday when I said Levitation is going down this weekend in Austin? Well it started last night and will continue throughout the weekend, so if you don’t have plans, go check out some live music and support local businesses. Not everything is sold out yet, including a nice lineup tonight featuring Black Angels, Ringo Deathstarr, and old time ATH favorite A Place to Bury Strangers. Prior to this night’s event, we sent Oliver our Levitation Festival questions and he was kind enough to answer them. Hit the jump for responses, set times, and music.

All responses come from leading man Oliver Ackermann.

ATH: Whats the name of the band/group? Where are you from?

Oliver: A Place To Bury Strangers and we are from New York.

ATH: Describe your groups sound to a new fan using only adjectives.

Oliver: Freaky.

ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2021/2022? Where can we get our hands on a new release?

Oliver: The Hologram EP on Dedstrange and we have a new record coming out in February of next year. You can get your hands on it at Walmart but they don’t sell it there. It’s just a display copy.

ATH: Looking back on a pandemic that was extremely hard on artists/musicians, do you feel that the situation had a positive, negative, or neutral impact on yourself and your music?

Oliver: I recorded a lot of music during lockdown which was really helpful for me as I was going through a tough time and that helped me get through it to be able to talk about it. It was sad seeing all the troubles around everywhere but it always is. That awareness I think leads to a lot of positive fundraising and change so as much as we can do to make a brighter future sounds good to me.

ATH: Getting back out and playing live post-pandemic and having a new lineup in tow, do you feel that the response has been heightened as a result of that lengthy void?

Oliver: I know I am super excited to be back doing this again. I will not take it for granted and try my hardest to make these shows the wildest and coolest that I can.

ATH: Weve got a great lineup in town for the weekend. Anyone you are trying to see?

Oliver: For sure Silver Synthetic, Shannon and the Clams, Uniform, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Ringo Deathstarr, The Black Angels, Fuzz, Hoveriii…..I could go on and on.

ATH: We always like to hear about what bands are listening to in their van/bus on tour. What are you guys spinning? How long does each member get to play DJ?

Oliver: It pretty much ends up being whoever’s driving gets to choose, either you or you DJ or I wanna hear the radio or some book about terrible death. On some long drives there gets to be some deep dive dj sessions. I get bored quick so it jumps from Gee Tee to Babyland to Black Sabbath to the Sangri-Las

ATH: The band gets to create their own taco pop-up shop at Levitation! Whats the name, and what sort of tacos will you have? Any sides?

Oliver: The 5 dollar taco – it’s 8 rolls of pennys wrapped up in a one dollar bill. You can get it at the bank.

Thanks again Oliver for making this time for us.

Here is A Place to Bury Strangers latest EP The Hologram EP along with set times for tonight. See you out there!
