Rachel from Field Mouse Records as Anomie

anomie-EP-coverOur friends over at Father/Daughter Records have had a busy week. The brought us the new Diet Cig track earlier this week, and now they’re bringing another catchy female-fronted pop track from Anomie, which is the recording project of Rachel of Field Mouse (no known relation to Field Mice!). This tune is a straight-ahead rocker; it’s the sort you just turn up to get some energy when you’re raring to go out. Her Anomie EP will be released by the label at the beginning of February (the 10th!), so if you just need a pick me up or a great song to send a friend, try this one on for size.

More New Music From Field Mouse

fieldmousegroup

Already this year I’ve shared two incredible songs with you by Brooklyn based dream/haze pop upstart band Field Mouse and I hope you’re enjoyed those two as much as I have.  They have a really great style that’s reminiscent of bands like School of Seven Bells or even a less somber Beach House.  Today they band are offering up yet another great single found below called “Tomorrow is Yesterday” that throws in some hints of Metric along with those other bands previously mentioned.  Of course I dig all those bands so I’m on board with this new project as well.

New Jam From Field Mouse

We’re clearly a little late on this new jam from Field Mouse so let’s just get that out of the way and move about our business.  The new song at hand is called “How Do You Know” and is a nice little number that fits into the shoe gaze pop genre.  Sultry vocals here from lovely lady Rachel Browne are what really intrigue me about the track and help it to stand out from others in the genre.  This sweet new jam is available on a 7″ single coming your way from Lefse Records on October 16th.  Pre-Order here.

New Music From Field Mouse

Here’s a new track from hazy dream pop outfit Field Mouse called “Glass”.  The newish group definitely have a knack for creating entrancing pop music.  This new song has just been released in support of a new 7″ from the band entitled SPROO8 due out February 28th on Small Plates Records.  The tune below isn’t actually on that single so just enjoy and maybe pre-order their new release if you dig.

A Year End List from Joe Smyth of Nine Mile Records and Touring

Joe Smyth help us keep our Austin theme today, as he’s one of the folks helping get Austin acts (and others) out on the road. But, more importantly, he’s a scavenger of music news, so he’s given us a couple of great lists…one a shout out to the blogs that turned him onto great music…and the other just a general best of list. Peruse as you must, and if you have touring needs…check out Nine Mile Touring.

Phaseone Sets Me Right

The name of this track is “Hunter”. It is strong and mellow and dark and stuff.

Andrew Jernigan is Phaseone and he is from Brooklyn. In fact, if I like a song that is slightly electronic in slant and someone asks where that dude is from, I usually act like I know and answer Brooklyn. Nine times out of ten, I’ll be right these days. Fellow Brooklynite Rachel Browne of Field Mouse, takes care of vocals on this gem.

Full length I I TELL U lands May 7th via Williams Street.

ACL Fest Preview: The Top Ten Strokes Songs

THE STROKESIt’s ACL Weekend One, and after all the hubbub, the festival is upon us. Initially, I was surprised at the choice of offering up the Strokes as the Sunday headliner, but upon further consideration, I can see how easily they fit in. They’ve spent the last 15 years as a relevant musical act, whilst filling my own personal collection with hit after hit. People will rave about Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse, but when I think of the quintessential band of the 2000s, I think of these guys. Their first two albums alone could be played from front to back, and never miss a beat as far as enjoyment goes. I might be in the minority, but I think this is one of the best headliners the fest has had. So, I went through the catalog and picked out my Top Ten Strokes songs of all time, which should not only cement them as a great band, but as a great closer of Austin’s revered festival.  If you click on the track title, you’ll get a video link to hear the songs for yourself. FT50: Albums of the ’00s

0828top5coverWhat?   You still listen to THAT album?  That record is so 2004!  Well, that’s okay, because we really like that one too, which is why we decided to come up with a list of our favorite albums of the last decade (2000-2009).  Sure, these might not be YOUR favorite records, or the most critically acclaimed, but we sat down and really thought out every record from the past ten years that we keep coming back to in our collections.  You’re likely to disagree with some of these, and we won’t tell you we’re absolutely right we just know that these happen to be OUR favorites.  If you think we totally blew it here, feel free to tell us so, but be nice, as our egos are kind of fragile.  Follow the jump for more.
