We’ve been planning for quite a while now, with numerous people working their tails off. After all the hard work and preparations, the first showcase by Austin Town Hall went down Friday night at Emo’s Lounge in Austin, TX. Read more
Don’t forget the first ATH showcase this evening at Emo’s Lounge. Things get started at 10pm with opening act The Bridge Farmers with The Drawing Board and Whitman to follow. Admission is only $5 if you’re of drinking age! Check out our original post for songs and websites for each band playing tonight.
Remember when we posted about an awesome new song by The Pack A.D.? Well, I just noticed that the band will be showcasing their talents at The Hole in the Wall here in Austin on Saturday night (8/2). I’ve never seen this band live, but I imagine this to be a killer show. Show time is set for 10pm with a cover of only $6. Click the link above to hear “Making Gestures” off the band’s new album Funeral Mixtape to give yourself a preview of what’s to come.
Polyvinyl label greats Of Montreal have a new song called “Id Engager” which you can listen to below. If you’re like me and can’t really justify spending all that money to fly out to Chicago this weekend, you can catch most of Lollapalooza live on the Lollapalooza website. A lot of the mid-range acts from the festival will also be seen at our little ACL festival later in September. Maybe that will make your schedule planning a bit easier? I suggest tuning in first thing tomorrow at 12:15 for the Holy F*ck set. C3 also somehow landed Radiohead AND Rage Against the Machine as headliners but couldn’t get either for ACL. I suggest checking those two out. See the schedule for the event on the festival website. You can also download an mp3 from each artist playing this weekend on a Lollapalooza mix created on Stereogum.
No, the title of this post is not a typo. Chris Cornell is actually teaming up with Timbaland for his new solo album Scream due out sometime this September. Even better, you can hear 5 new songs off the album over on the planet radio website. I have always been a fan of Soundgarden and most of Audioslave’s material but I’m not sure I’ll be on board for this venture. It’s…. interesting to say the least. Let’s get some good comments on this one.
Haven’t heard too much about The Go! Team recently so I was surprised to see that they have a short live set/interview on the Minnesota Public Radio website. The band plays just 3 songs for the radio station but you can download each one for free. The Go! Team will be playing at this weekend’s Lollapalooza festival which ATH will be talking about later.
One of the hardest working artist I know, Will Johnson, is continuing some of his solo performances here at The Mohawk on Thursday night. Will is the founding member of Veteran Dallas band Centro-Matic. ATH recently checked out his solo set at Waterloo records and were blown away by the powerfulness of these songs played with only a guitar in hand. Buy tickets to the show for only $11.
Brooklyn’s finest dance/pop band Chairlift have some new music for your listening pleasure. The song is called “Evident Utensil” and will be seen on the band’s newest album Does You Inspire You due out on November 11th October 28th. The band will also be stopping by our little town on August 9th at The Mohawk with tour mates Ariel Pink. Tickets for the event are sold only at the door. Mark your calendar![audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/evidentutensil.mp3]

We don’t post too much hip-hop on our website (probably because none of us are terribly well versed in the genre) so when we hear something that deserves a second listen, we give it to you. Brit hip-hop artist The Streets are one of those artists that sometimes deserve that second listen. The Streets have a new song called “The Escapist” that you can download by simply typing in an email address (it doesn’t have to be a real one). The song will be seen on The Streets new album Everything is Borrowed due out September 15th. You can also watch the new video for “The Escapist” on man’s greatest invention, youtube. I can’t seem to get the song out of my head. What do you think?
