I was just a wee youngling when British glam rockers The Cult got their start, but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate some throw back 80s rock. So if you’re into that sort of thing, make your way to Stubbs on Saturday night for the experience. Once the headlining set wraps up, head indoors for a free show (if you keep your Cult ticket) by local Austin boys Scorpion Child. That picture alone should make you want to check this one out.

Friday night at Scoot Inn is a great place to stop by if you’re looking for some great local upstart acts. The Lineup includes some of our more recent local favorites Brothers & Sisters, The Low Lows, Mr. Lewis and The Funeral 5, and The Sideshow Tragedy. Can’t get much better than that!

Local Austin boys Ideal Soul Mart have been gaining some positive attention around town with some jam packed shows at several local venues. We here at ATH have taken notice of the band’s efforts and thought they’d be a great choice for this weeks artist to watch feature. Follow the jump for more info on this up and coming band.
I’ve been giving some heavy rotation to Hallelujah the Hills lately, and like most smart bands, they have some free music you can check out. Start you trek into their discography with a free EP from last year called Prepare to Qualify which you can download for free. After that, have a listen to this new jam “Classic Tapes” which will appear on upcoming album Colonial Drones out September 22nd on Misra Records.

It’s been right at 3 years since we’ve gotten a proper LP from Chicago outfit Califone and I can honestly say I’ve missed them. Isn’t that sweet? But alas, the band is back and ready to drop a new album our way October 6th called All My Friends Are Funeral Singers. Here’s a first glimpse of that Dead Oceans release, “Funeral Singers”. Welcome back to the game boys.

We love the man known as King Khan and we get amped up when he makes new music with The Shrines or with The BBQ show. This new jam comes from the BBQ show and will appear on upcoming album Invisible Girl out November 3rd on In the Red Records. Do these guys put out bad music?

San Francisco band Sleepy Sun have made their way to Austin and are getting down at Mohawk on Tuesday night. Opening support will be provided by Headdress, The Delta Mirrors, and our fellow local rockers Ringo Deathstarr. Should be a fun way to start your week off right.

Hole in the Wall is the place to be on Saturday if you want to check out the best and brightest of up and coming local artists! The lineup is just straight nasty and highlights include ATH favorites Quiet Company, Frantic Clam, Deathray Davies, DJ Mel and a whole butt load of others that won’t all fit in this small space. Ticket prices vary throughout the day so here’s the lowdown on that:

$3 from 7-10
$7 from 10-2am
