Black And White Years @ Stubbs (7/18)

bwhiteyrsThe Black and White Years have slowly started to make a name for themselves as one of the biggest draws in our town.  Chances to see them in smaller venues in Austin may be hard to come by soon so head to the indoor stage at Stubbs Saturday night for a set by the rock n roll outfit.  We’re more excited for the show because our good friends Whitman will be providing the opening support for the evening and start around 10pm.  Tickets can be had now for $8 or $10 at the door.  Here’s that catchy single by B&WY, “Power to Change”.

Austin A2W: TV Torso

tv_torso_photographer_tim_murrayTV Torso may not be a household name at this point, but I’m sure some of you are familiar with the Austin band Sound Team that disbanded forever in 2007.  We mention them because two founding members of TV Torso, Matt Oiver (guitar/vocals) and Jordan Johns (drums) were both members of that now defunct Austin band.  After adding bassist Austin Jones, the band has started fresh and are planning to take the Austin world by storm.  TV Torso call their sound minimal rock music and try to keep their sound as simplistic as possible.  Whatever you want to call it, we dig it.  The band also recently finished recording two 7″ singles which will hit stores August 18th and will come with the vinyl, free downloads, a bonus download and a blank CD-R.  You can catch these guys live on Thursday at Mohawk for free around midnight or on August 20th again at Mohawk along with fellow A2W band The AuthorsCheck out the TV Torso band camp site for some more free tuneage or enjoy this one “Days of Being Wild”.

Rise Against @ Stubbs (7/17)

riseagainstbandsmallFriday night isn’t too promising for music in Austin, so Rise Against at Stubbs may be one of your only options.  Unfortunately the tickets will run you $35 so you better be a pretty big fan to make it out to this one.  However, the lineup gets better with Rancid and Billy Talent (who are in fact both still around) providing the opening entertainment.  Things get started around 8pm.

New Music From The Dodos

the-dodosWe’ve long been fans of The Dodos as evidenced by their spot in our 2008 top album’s post, so we are of course excited about their forthcoming album.  Apparently the band has had some trouble with the album leaking online, so they went on and made it available to stream in full from their websiteTime to Die will be available digitally on July 28th and physical copies are in stores September 15th via French Kiss Records.  We’ve also got first single from the album, “Fables” below.

Dirty Projectors @ Red 7 (7/15)

dirty_projectorsWe have no idea why such a hyped band would be playing at such a small place, but Dirty Projectors are coming to town at Red 7 on Wednesday night.  We also just read that Greg Ginn, like THE Greg Ginn, like the guy that founded Black Flag, will be opening.  Opening?  Yeah don’t get that one either… Local acts The Laughing and DJ Sean O’Neal will also be on hand for opening support.  Tickets are on sale now for $13 but are sure to sell out soon.
