Emo’s second sweet lineup of the weekend comes on Saturdy which features Delta Spirit, Other Lives, and Dawes. Tickets for this show are on sale now for only $11 from Ticketweb. Doors open at 9pm with music starting up at 10. You can also preview the show with that Delta Spirit Daytrotter session we told you about earlier this week.

The nice folks at do512 and Vinyl Entertainment are offering you another show this weekend with free drinkage to be had. This time around the celebration is for the release of new LP Valley of the Cyclops by local act Diagonals. Other local artists The Ugly Beats and DJ Brian Tweedy will also be getting in on the fun. The show is going down at the 501 studios (map here) downtown and starts around midnight. RSVP to the show now to guarantee entry and get yourself some free Lonestar!

The latest and greatest crystal in their name band, Crystal Antlers, have a new rockin’ jam for your listening pleasure. The new track is called “Andrew” and will appear on the band’s upcoming LP Tentacles out April 6th. If the whole album sounds like this, we may be in store for one of the years best.

Local boys Whitman recently spent a long weekend in the studio and are ready to drop a new track your way from the sessions. No word yet on a title or release date for an upcoming album, but we’ll let you know when we hear something. The new track, “Light It Up”, has been getting heavy rotation in the ATH offices and we think you’ll like it as much as we do. Feel free to drop us a line about the new tune or hit them up on myspace.

Maybe some of our readers are not ready for the face melting music of Mastodon, but count ATH as one of their many fans. The Grammy winning band are bringing you a new album on March 24th entitled Crack the Skye and have two new songs to preview the effort. First new song “Oblivion” can be heard on the album’s website along with some sweet flash animations. We’ve got the other new tune “Diviniations” for you below.

We continue our attempts to bring you some lesser known SXSW acts today with Swiss artist Choo Choo. Originally formed as a 3 piece back in ’06, the band now performs their brand of 60s style garage rock as a 4 piece out of their home in Berne, Switzerland. Catchy hooks infused with fuzzy guitar and some pop stylings all their own characterize the sound on Choo Choo’s debut self-titled LP out in 2008. The band’s going to be hard at work making a name for themselves during SXSW and playing more shows than any band ever should.

Emo’s has some solid shows this weekend starting off on Friday with Fujiya & Miyagi. The English band will be joined by opening act Project Jenny, Project Jan with doors opening at 9pm. Tickets can be bought at the door or in advance for $15.

If you thought emo was dead, think again peoples! The now legendary label Deep Elm is offering up a 15 song sampler of emo tracks from all of their artists new and old. ATH favorites like Appleseed Cast, Slowride, Sounds Like Violence, and a slew of others appear on the free compilation. Here’s one of our favorite old school emo tunes featured on the sampler by Appleseed Cast.

We receive a lot of randomness in our inbox here at ATH and rarely does anything strike our interest like Drew Danburry has. Maybe it’s a shared love for The Never Ending Story or the songwriters catchy diddy about Atreyu’s beloved horse Artex. Alamo Draft House is teaming up with local giants Octopus Project on Wednesday night for what looks like a once in lifetime type event! The idea behind the visual music event is simple: short films play on the big screen and Octopus Project play their own personal scores for the films. You can catch this unique “show” at 7:00pm or again at 9pm on Wednesday night. Tickets are on sale now for $15 from the Draft House website.
