Green Buzzard Combine Lo-Fi and Alternative

greenbuzzardWhen wading through all the fresh tracks on the internet sometimes you find some good tunes buried in the mix. This track, “Zoo Fly” from Green Buzzard, is a great example of such a find, and it combines that good old 90’s alternative sound with the lo-fi sound that’s become so popular as of late. These Aussies are getting ready to release this single as a 7″ on August 21st through Mermaid Avenue Records. You can watch the music video for this track here.

Fresh Indiepop from The Popguns

popLast year the Popguns returned via Matinee Recordings, making a big splash with throngs of indiepop masses.  But, it looks like once that songwriting bug hit the band, they couldn’t stop, already prepping the release of a new EP.  The opening track, “Still Waiting for the Winter” should already have piqued your interest, having appeared on the aforementioned album, Pop Fiction.  But, there will also be three exclusive new tracks to reassure your fandom.  I’ve posted one of those new tracks below, and it’s perfect…no need for more words other than that.  Look for the Still Waiting for the Winter EP this July.

Brilliant New Grave Babies Tune

graveOn their last album, Grave Babies hit heavy and hard, busting the cones on many a speakers.  But, they’re readying a new album, Holographic Violence, and it’s set to be something entirely different.  Elements of darkness still pervade their latest single, from the warped tones on the vocals to the emotional draw that takes center stage.  Still, listen to the guitars that open the song; you’ll hear that wayward shimmering pop element that basically made bands in the early shoegaze era so intoxicating.  The band’s new LP will be out via Hardly Art on July 24th.

Stream New Little Racer EP

lr_portrait2_andrewsegretiNot too long ago, I shared an enchanting new tune from Little Racer called “Jack Knife”.  That one tune climbed it’s way to the top of my most played fast as hell so it only makes since for me to share more music as the band has it.  Let’s consider this a lucky day as the band is currently streaming their entire new Foreign Tongues EP for all the fans.  You can find all the goodness below.

Fresh Tunes from Tijuana Panthers

tijuanaThe last time out for Tijuana Panthers I was totally in love.  I kept talking to friends about Wayne Interest, yet no one seemed to listen, sadly. But, if you listen to this song, I hope it encourages you to go back and check out the band’s work; it’s perhaps some of my secret favorite tunes.  There’s something about this song, be it the line “feel like a cowboy” or just the Western jangle rock approach of the guitars, but it has its hooks in me. I hear there’s more great news about more music coming our way soon, so we’ll get you that once it’s in our hands. For now…just enjoy.

Welcome Home Monk Parker

d6c9f0de-991e-448a-8ece-723319c91707Many locals around these parts venture off to greener pastures at some point in their career and Monk Parker is no different.  Having moved off to NYC a while back with his band The Low Lows, Parker is back home here in Austin after his band’s breakup.  From the ashes of his now defunct band, comes an entire LP of solo material recorded at his family farm just outside of ATX.  As a preview of the upcoming album, new single “Sadly Yes” has just been released.  To me, it’s in the vein of alt country, similar to fellow locals like Will Johnson as a solo musician or with his projectSouth San Gabriel.  Very majestic and beautiful.  Welcome back.

New album, How the Spark Loves the Tinder, is due out on August 28th via Bronze Rat.

Miami Vampin

Dipset member Jim Jones continues his Vampire Life series with his new mixtape Miami Vampin. Jim Jones delivers his usual blend of gritty and humorous lyrics over hard hitting beats, now moving his night life–Vampire Life–to a Miami backdrop. The Vampire Life series has also turned into a clothing line and a soda (not available in Austin, but can be ordered online). Something new to Jim Jones’ music with this mixtape is the use of Auto-Tune. I am not a big fan of Auto-Tune but fortunately the mixtape is not bogged down by it. The mixtape can be downloaded or streamed for free from DatPiff. The opening track can be streamed below.

Missed This Cairo Gang Tune

cairogangIt’s never fun to come home to a mass quantity of emails after a brief vacation, except for when you go through and find a gem like this tune from The Cairo Gang.  I’m pretty sure that their early success has built a broader audience thirsting for this new record. The track lives somewhere in the realm between Americana stomp and American power-pop, filled with this great vocal that I can’t get out of my head (does anyone else hear Pollard?). It’s the second single from the band’s new album, Gone Missing, being released on June 23rd on God?.

Stuck on Mail the Horse

maleIt’s interesting how musical tastes go in and out of our consciousness. Sometimes I delve into straight punk rock and don’t come out for days…then I fall into indiepop magic.  But, I always have a spot for the folk-leaning tunes, like this new one from Mail the Horse.  This might sound strange, but it truly sounds like Julian Casablancas got together with a bunch of his friends and made a stomping Western album.  There’s that grinding organ sound, and the guitar that filters through the hills of endless desert landscapes.  The group is preparing for the release for their album Planet Gates, which hits on June 23rd.

Shannon and the Clams Return

Shannon and The ClamsThis track has been everywhere the last few days, but I’m just getting back to civilization, so excuse my tardiness. It’s good to see that Shannon and the Clams are back at it, and they return with a sultry twang that should definitely put them on more people’s radar.  It’s a sound that falls right in line with the band’s nostalgic nods they’ve been making over the years; this time the group rolls through the track slowly allowing Shannon’s voice to be the superstar (it always was).  Their new album, Gone by the Dawn, comes September 11th via Hardly Art.  Check the video for the song HERE.
