Watch the New Omni Video

Another week, another great song being released by Trouble in Mind Records, but this time the band is Omni. They’ve got a new album titled Deluxe coming out in July on the label, and I think it’s one one of those really special musical pieces…at least for those of that grew up listening to a lot of punk. It seems to take all the genres of punk, and the after-punk years (glam, no wave, post, proto) and combine them to create an amalgam of great sounds. Watch their video for the new track below, and be ready for the official release come July 8th.

New (Old) Music from Jons

jonsThis is a great Monday track. You’re sitting there, looking back on the weekend, wondering how you got kicked into the working week so quickly, wishing for a bit of respite. So take on this Jons track, a sprawling bit of a ballad, coated in haunting vocal effects. But, my favorite reason for believing in the track comes right after the first 1.40 minute mark; up until then the track was mildly subdued, but just a slight pick up in spirit changes your outlook/emotions. You’ve got something to live for, something to long for…and the secret lives within this song. Solitaire Recordings will behelping the band out in the future, so keep your eyes peeled.

New Music from Family Video and Sparkle Water

splittapeOne of my favorite little labels is Lost Sound Tapes, as I’ve mentioned before, but I was getting worried as they’d been quiet the last few months. But, sweat no more, as the label is releasing a split tape between Family Video and Sparkle Water (both Canadian). The Sparkle Water side seems to hold a groovier, slightly louder sound, working between lo-fi and noise rock. Family Video (at least on the single) gets to play the innocent foil, bringing in a softer piece to balance out the feel of the tape. Can’t tell you which I love more, but you can make up your own mind and grab the tape on June 3rd.

Another Great Track from Psychic Ills

psychicFor some reason I hadn’t realized until today how much I was looking forward to listening to the new album from Psychic Ills. While they still adhere to some of the psychedelic vibes, their new effort has this sprawling country vibe to it. The edges are slightly darkened, longing, settling the listener into a vibe of contemplation as the song unfolds…slide guitar and all. The group will release Inner Journey Out on June 3rd via Sacred Bones Records, and you can bet I’ll be in line waiting to pick it up.

More Music from Mourn

mournPromising young Spanish act Mourn seem to have their legal issues all figured out, so they’re going full force pushing ahead with the promotion of their new album, Ha Ha He, which is out in just a couple of weeks (June 3rd). Their latest track seems to have a dark post-punk feel to it, filled with discordant chords and a propulsive movement that pushes the track ahead. I continue to be impressed by the group’s youth, as if that matters, but their craftsmanship rivals that of their peers, who are often years older. Look for the new LP via Captured Tracks.

Airy Dream Pop from Richard Yot

richardLooking for that sense of longing today, longing to be into the weekend. Not quite in party mode, but more in a chilled mood, which is where this new track from Richard Yot gets into the mix. The vibes here are really calming, all the way up to Yot’s lofty vocals that are carefully draping themselves around the subdued musical elements. He’s working non-stop, like he once did as a video animator, to craft his sound, and the looks of this track have us in-store for some really great listens in the future…we’ll keep you posted on that as it comes our way.

Martha Should Be Your New Favorite Band

marthaOn the latest single from Martha, the group opens up really casually, just working the approach with vocals and guitars. That segment alone wins my fandom, based on the sweet vocal tones that are present…but some people need a bit more. You can feel it coming in this track, a faint buzz in the speakers up until the 1 minute mark, and then they blast off. They bring a crashing bit of pop rock fueled by gang vocals and distorted riffs that will ring in your ears, just as you try to memorize every second of the lyrics. This track appears on Blisters in the Pit of My Heart, which will be released in July via Dirtnap and Fortuna Pop.

Brand New Indiepop from The Salient Braves

salientIt’s been a few years since we’ve been able to bring you anything new from The Salient Braves, but I’m sitting here smiling, letting the band’s indiepop vibes wash over me this morning. They’re set to release their new EP, They Must Have Seen Me Coming next week, and they’ve tossed us a few tracks to help encourage your listening. The EP’s title track has that traditional indiepop sound, ringing guitars circling the song’s central melody. They take a more casual approach on the second track offered, settling into the groove of the song immediately while you wait for the warm of the melodies to sing up in the track’s mix. Look for the EP next Friday via Broken Down Records.

New Music from Heliotropes

heliotropesIf I were you, I’d listen closely to this new song from Heliotropes; it’s the sort of rock n’ roll with just the right pop sensibility and shimmering edges to be your favorite track for the next few weeks. It almost sounds like a dream pop single, but the band don’t enforce the typical bits of expansive reverb and atmospherics, instead offering up an honest track. The only downfall? It might be just 30 seconds too short, but that’s only because I want this song to last forever. Look for the band to release Over There That Way on July 15th via The End Records.
