More New Music from Benjamin Cissner

bencissnerAustin’s Ben Cissner has had quite a month since the early local release of Birds of Night, which I still think is one of the better listens to come out of Austin this year, or really anywhere. He’s got a haunting tone on this latest single, and the musical accompaniment is pretty spot-on, filling in every little spot to drive home the personal touches Ben used to fill up his debut record. This is just a short note to remind you how great his debut is, and encourage you to take a further listen to his work.

Yung Return with New Single Off New LP

Last year, it seemed like everyone was raving about Denmark’s yungYung, so it should be surprised that the group are working on their much anticipated debut album. This first single is interesting, as it begins in almost a casual manner before changing pace and racing off to the finish line. It sounds like the band have taken on a more guitar pop oriented focus on their new songs, while still keeping a bit of grit with the vocals. Look for A Youthful Dream, their debut album, to come out this June via Fat Possum.

Prep Yourself for Blue Jeans

bluejeanscover-320x320When a band lists Comet Gain, The Rentals and Go Betweens (among others) as influences or approved acts you should like, I’m going to get behind them, which is where I started with Blue Jeans (who formerly went by Santa Monica Swim and Dive Club). The group is prepping the release of their debut for Jigsaw Records (also personally approved); it’s titled Songs Are Easy. On the group’s fist singe from it begins with an indiepop stomp, but I can hear some of the singer Tim Sendra’s folkier influences dangling out there until accompanying vocals via Heather Phares carry you into a more blissful arena. This thing’s all warm-fuzzes all the time; look for the debut on May 6th.

Stream Let It Rise from 2/3 Goat

TwoThirdsGoatHiRes5byJaredJefferyThe last year or so I’ve been re-indulging in my adoration for country/Americana/folk, which is actually where my earliest musical tastes began (thanks dad). So here we are streaming Let It Rise, the new album coming from Brooklyn’s 2/3 Goat. The record words its way back and forth between singers Annalyse McCoy and Ryan Dunn, each having a unique manner in which they portray the stories and tribulations that have dominated their lives. “Whiskey Sins” and “Jenny” both got the early single treatment in the album cycle, but I think I’ve been stuck listening to “Whistle in the Wind” a great deal as of late. The band will be self-releasing their record this Friday, so preview it below, and grab it if you love it.

Listen to New Music from Stanley Brinks

stanleyStanley Brinks really just came onto my radar recently with his work on collaborative records he did with The Wave Pictures. But, he’s at it again, doing another collaborative piece, but this time with the Kaniks. They add a more orchestral touch, placing some horns and extra bits to flesh out Stanley’s storytelling on this new track. It’s just one of two songs that just went up via Fika Recordings, but it looks like there’s another similar effort coming right around the corner.

Dinno Channels Chill Pop Vibes

1547932_390691291077633_577453519_oDinnoare a french duo out to take the world by storm with their laid back grooves of sun-soaked pop music. It appears that they’ve released an EP last month, and word is starting to get to the states about their great blend of laid-back pop with psychedelic tinges to the guitars. The track I have for you below is called “Reflexion Solaire D’une Rouquine,” and has a Real Estate meets Mac Demarco style to it. There’s a lot to love on this song– the twangy guitars, those soft vocals, and the layers of percussion that finish it all off with a flourish. Go check out the rest of the EP out on Music Unit here after you’re done enjoying the one below.

Supermoon and Soft Pop

supermoonSupermoon are going to be the next big thing, at least in my listening rotation. In fact, knowing that the members were part of Pups (which featured Rose Melberg) makes this all the more enticing. The Vancouver group has signed on to work with Mint Records, fresh off the back of their Comet Lovejoy EP. Our first listen to one of the track off their forthcoming double 7″ is as playful and carefully crafted as the best pop music can be. There’s a sincerity that’s often overlooked, with guitar chords seemingly picked with the greatest care. Look for their new Playland 7″ on May 20th.

Electronic New Wave From NO/NO

12028820_904958519559904_2891444078120180650_oNO/NO hail from Milwaukee and specialize in synthy new wave music. They’re on their way to releasing a new album, and with that, earlier this week they shared a new single called “Whatever,” which will help you end your work week, or keep plugging through the day, whichever is your case. What strikes me about this track is the general balance of the whole tune; there’s a whole lot going on in this blend of electro-pop, but it’s not overwhelming or too much. The percussion is smooth and the synths chime in and out, making the track a near five minute effortless groove. Take a listen and get ready for Sound and Light, which will be out sometime this spring via Gloss Records.

Hurry Blasts Through With Sunny Pop

hurryHurry, from Philadelphia, formed back in 2012, and are about to hit you in the face with their latest dose of bright pop in “When I’m With You.” Almost from the moment you start the track, the bright vocals chime in and are the constant source of light within the tune. This component is what really makes the song; the half-falsetto is ever-present and creates a unique sound that you won’t soon forget. The vocals are complimented by the hazy guitars that have just the right amount of distortion to them. “When I’m With You” is a track you should probably send to your loved one, or perhaps just treat yourself to with your windows down. Get to listening.
