From The Closet: Third Eye Blind

3bHowwwwwww’s it gonna beeeeee, when you don’t know meeeeee anymoooooooore.

Come on, you know the words. 3eb exploded onto the pop scene with their 1997 self-titled album, scoring 3 Top 10 hits while selling over 6 million copies. I won’t lie, that album was near the front of my Case Logic CD case throughout the late 90’s. Partly because I didn’t know any better, and partly because it was a legitimately solid pop album. It played surprisingly well from start to finish, and the hooks had the potential to get stuck in your head for days. Briefly recapturing the magic with their second album Blue, Third Eye Blind faded into oblivion much like their other “Post-Grunge” colleagues. But have no fear, the 2009 comeback begins during SXSW as they are slated to play the Austin Convention Center at 6:00 PM on Friday, March 20th.

The Dead Weather

dead-weather-jack-whiteSo we’re fairly certain that this track is soon to be on every blog in the country by the end of the day.  Regardless, this killer new tune comes your way from Jack White’s latest supergroup going by the name The Dead Weather.  The group features of course Jack White on vocals & drums, Raconteur Jack Lawrence on bass, Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Dean Fertita and best of all, The Kills‘ Allison Mosshart on lead vocals.  Sounds like a match made in heaven right?  Apparently the band played their first gig at Jack White’s Third Man Studios in Nashville last night and gave out a limited 7″ vinyl of new single “Hang You Up From the Heavens”.  You probably don’t live in Tennessee so we’ve got the track for you below.  The debut full length from the group, Horehound, is due out in early June.

New Tunes from Surf City

surfEveryone seems to love Surf City lately, and they are picking up a lot of press over here in the states, which isn’t entirely rare from a band straight out of Oceania. We, too, are really excited to see what they can come up with when they release their full length to throngs of fans stateside. Here’s just a little sample off their self-titled EP.

Psych Fest @ Radio Room 3/13-3/15

pf2_bigThe week/weekend before SXSW is usually pretty bland for live music, but a few locals have put together a nice little festival going down this weekend.  Over the weekend, if you’re not resting up for next week, you should make it out to the new Radio Room (map) for the 2nd annual Psych Fest.  The lineup for the weekend events is pretty impressive with big names like Black Angels, Strange Boys, Dead Meadow, Shapes Have Fangs, A Place to Bury Strangers, and tons more.  Tickets for the event are on sale now and are going for $45 for a 3 day pass and $15 for individual day tickets.  Music starts at 9pm on Friday and 1pm on both Saturday and Sunday.  Check out the official website for full schedule and band info or have a look at that trippy flier.
