Another New Tune from The Echo Friendly

echofriendlyRecently I tossed up a cover jam from duo, The Echo Friendly, but we’re back with our first taste of the band’s original work for their upcoming album, which is scheduled to come out later in 2014. Listening through, it’s got a driving hook that centers around the vocal delivery of Shannon Esper.  The guitar line shimmers with a bit of a discordant ring to it, and the beat only serves to emphasize the forward push of the track.  It’s definitely a catchy tune that still holds a bit of grit in its teeth.

New Music from Stone Jack Jones

artworks-000065604035-0u4pf0-t500x500As the temperature drops across the Northern Hemisphere, we’re all seeking out some form of solace.  For some it’s a fire, but for me, it’s sad bastard/slow folk tunes. Luckily, this new tune from Nashville’s Stone Jack Jones came our way today, so we had to share the number.  It’s got a real slow pace, with the vocals carefully floating atop the guitar, and backing vocals added by Patty Griffin.  If you ask me, tunes like this are much better than a fireplace, but that’s just me.  His new album, Ancestor, drops on March 4th via Western Vinyl (those guys are going to have a rad 2014).

American Rock from Desert Noises

desrtGood jams are good jams, and sometimes they come our way with no guise our pretension.  That’s the feeling that I got when I listened to the newest single from Desert Noises.  Sure, there’s hints of Americana or folk laying in their work, but by and large this is just a good American pop song, the kind we should be proud people are creating.  It’s not manufactured or over-produced; it’s just a jam of a track that makes you feel good. The band’s debut full-length, 27Ways, will be out on the streets in March via SQE Music.

New Track From Snowmine

Upload_Snowmine_2012_03_16 14_21_33Have you heard that we have a small love affair with Brooklyn band Snowmine?  Well if you didn’t know that, I guess you don’t read our work too often because we’ve been raving about these guys over the last few years.  This track “Columbus”, is yet another superb track from the band’s upcoming 2014 sophomore effort Dialects (out Feburary 4th).  I dig the orchestral sound here with the violins and “big” sound throughout the entire track.  Earl favorite for 2014.

New Music from Babe

Babe-HeadlineWinding down 2013 means we’ve got to make sure we’ve covered our bases, and I really wanted to make sure you all had a chance to hear this great song from Babe that went up a few weeks ago.  This single comes from the group’s upcoming LP, which is slated for a release on Moshi Moshi in March of 2014.  I love that there’s this real shimmering dance line that’s created with actual instruments, including the occasional stutter of vocals.  There’s different shifts too in what the group is offering up, so I’d be remiss to make a nod to those slight little changes.  It’s a promising start, if you’re asking me.

New Old Jam from Tony Molina

tonymolinaI didn’t want you all to think I’d gone completely soft on the world, so I had to post this track from Tony Molina.  Odds are, it’s new to most of you, though it’s a tune off his first LP, which is seeing a release on Slumberland Records, with a promise of a sophomore LP to come out later in the year.  This tune comes of Dissed and Dismissed, but it’s re-release only indicates that we’ve got more great things to come from Tony.  It’s got a scuzzy guitar line, but it also holds tight to a real pop sensibility that comes from, dare I say, Weezer. You can pick up the album on March 25th; I will.

Austin Spotlight: More New Music from Abram Shook

Abram.Shook.1.300Just a few weeks ago we brought you the first single from Abram Shook, and now he’s gone and outdone himself with another track for your ears.  I love the sound of his voice on this recording, plus the light-hearted emotion that’s created in the tune itself.  There’s lots of layers, but the construction of the track is such that it keeps things airy and joyous.  Listening to this track, you can see why we named Abram as one of our Emerging Artists for 2014. His album Sun Marquee is going to be a must-have when it’s released by Westerny Vinyl in early 2014.

Fresh Single From The New Mendicants

newmendWhile the rest of the music is dying, and fawning over Kanye and Vampire Weekend, there’s still some great new music bubbling out to wrap up a great 2013 for us all.  Personally, I’ve waited for this tune from New Mendicants to makes its way onto Soundcloud so I could share it with you.  It’s the joint project of Joe Pernice and Norman Blake, who just happen to be two of my favorite songwriters. Joe takes the lead on this tune, though the guitar playing seems to have that Teenage Fanclub bent you’d expect from Norman’s songwriting.  Don’t get stuck on the Christmas theme here, as the tune will feature on the band’s new record, The Lime, which comes out on January 20th via One Little Indian.

New Single from Tiger Waves

Tiger WavesYou all know that we love the boys in Tiger Waves, so it’s great to see that they’re finally getting some love from others on the Internet besides us.  They’re about to release a 7″ via Canvasback, and it features some old tunes, but one we’ve never run before, which premiered on the webs yesterday. This tune is the B-Side to their single, and it illustrates precisely why we’ve been fond of these dudes for so long.  It’s sunny and casual, yet there’s a lot of work into the construction of the track; I’m always impressed into the layering and creativity they put into their songs.  So, enjoy a new tune from some friends, and pick up their new release today!

Austin Spotlight: Swim Team Release EP

coverAustin’s got a great garage/punk scene, a solid Americana/folk scene, but it has always lacked a really great indiepop scene, despite having tons of great acts that’ve followed the genre.  Hopefully Swim Team will find some success, and things will start to change.  They’re creating these beautiful little pieces of dreamy pop that allow listeners to wander wistfully through their own minds.  They just released their self-titled EP, and I think that it’s one of the hidden gems of the city, so I opted to push it out there for people.  You can currently grab it for free, so be prepared to enjoy three great tunes.
