More New Tunes from Alphabetical Order Orchestra

alphabetical-order-orchestraNot too long ago we brought you a tune from Alphabetical Order Orchestra, the band who has sprung out of the hiatus of My Latest Novel.  That tune offered a glimpse of the band’s blend between folk and pop, but this new tune is much more simple, though equally as beautiful.  There’s light bits of percussion, though the song revolves around the acoustic guitar strumming and the vocal delivery.  But, just as you think the whole tune will remain on one level, the drums begin to bang, backing vocals unite, all before the song settles back down quietly.  No word yet on an official release, but we’ll keep you posted.

Voltage Black Bring Electronic Experimentation

600646_485502271514711_1647075311_nElectronica is clearly not my expertise and it’s rare that I find much worth repeat listens in the genre.  Nothing against those devoted to the style, it’s just not really my bag.  Well this track “Get Your Iron Aligned” from London based group Voltage Back is a song I’ve found myself putting on repeat several times in a row this morning.  It sort of takes you on an interesting wave of emotions throughout the lengthy six and a half minutes.  You start off with what could be a dance hall jam, then move into a more chill and mellow feel, before the major buildup towards the end for the last minute or so.  Well done gents.  Stay tuned for more from these guys.

New Music From Black Joe Lewis

blackjoelewisI can already see the look on your face when you press play on this new Black Joe Lewis track.  You’re confused, reading the artist name again, and scratching your head as to how this could be the same Black Joe we all know and love.  I’m right there with you, but I also said to myself, yeah this is sort of badass.  Everyone is entitled to change their sound and I see this as being a very positive thing for the group.  You can only get so far in this town continuing to play bluesy/gospel style music.  I’m with you Joe.  That bass line is just downright disgusting.

New album Electric Slave is due out August 13th on Vagrant Records.  Per the album title, I’d say be ready for some loud, in your face rock music.

Fresh New Music from Jeremy Jay

JeremyJayLondonTreesEver since he released the Airwalker EP and  A Place Where We Could Go I’ve been an adamant fan of Jeremy Jay and his music.  But, he’s been quiet as of late, waiting almost two full years since his last release to put together a new album.  According to an email, part of that seems to be that he’s been searching for the absolute perfect place to record his music.  Our first taste of new music from Jeremy already seems destined for greatness, with an old 80s warehouse sound and Jay’s cool vocal delivery.  His new record should come our way later this year via K Records, with a single slated for release prior to that date; for now, he’s graciously sent us this incredible tune to share with you all. Do yourself a favor if you’re new to Jeremy, and go revisit his entire catalogue. It’ll be a day well spent.

Welcome Back: The Cannanes

cannanesAfter more than a decade, we are happy to see that The Cannanes are fully back with a brand new full-length.  They teased us recently with an EP, but now they’ve announced Howling at All Hours will be released by our really good friends over at Chapter Music.  I’ve always appreciated the vocal delivery in their songs, which sort of remind of the way Ian Dury delivered his lyrics, although The Cannanes seemed to have a little bit more sensibility, employing backing lyrics to add a balance. You can get your copy at your local store on July 5th, adding to the great releases by Chapter this year (see Dick Diver).

Summer Jam from Béisbol

We provide your No Bummer soundtrack…

Béisbol is a brother duo based out of Portland, Jeff and Ryan Burian, brings us the latest song I will share as a background music to your summer. This has a tinge of Italian disco in the bassline and plenty of catchy Indie hooks to get you bobbing in time.

The bros will play the Baths aftershow at The Mohawk next week.

Something New from Arp

arpI know I’m usually the one with a tendency towards power-pop or punk rock here, but I couldn’t resist posting this incredible song from Arp.  The project of Alexis Georgopoulos has been quiet since 2010, though he’s popped up here and there.  This piece exemplifies why Arp is such a special listen, revolving around the voice for the most part, though the entrance of horns and organ definitely take the song into another level of beauty.  I’m in love with Alexis’ voice throughout the tune, softly operatic and accented by the light guitar work backbone.  His new record, More, will come out on September 19th via Smalltown Superound.

Upbeat Tune from Painted Palms + Free EP

paintedpalmsWe’ve covered Painted Palms before, and now we’ve all got even more reason to celebrate, as the group has just put up the FREE Nothing Lasts Long EP for your ears.  According to our sources, the story behind the release was for the duo to experiment with the worlds where psychedelia and electronica collide; they even intended to create is as a mixtape of sorts.  I’m really digging this tune below, with a really solid groove that grabs you from the get go.  You can grab yourself this rad little EP HERE.

New Experimental Pop From Celestial Shore

1989Upon first listen to new track “Stairs Under Stars” from Celestial Shores, most will immediately compare the band to fellow experimental pop hit makers Dirty Projectors.  I’m sure most bands would take such a comparison as a compliment so lets say they mix Projectors with a touch of some swirly/surfy guitars thrown in for good measure.  Check out the track below and let us know what you think.

New album, 10x, is due out September 3rd on Hometapes & Local Singles Records.

More New Music From Smith Westerns

SmithYuck22The release date for new Smith Westerns album Soft Will draws closer this week, as we all eye June 25th to pick up our physical copy. With the release date close upon us, I’m sure many folks have had the chance to listen to most of the album (if not all of it).  Prior to the physical release, the band have offered up this new track “Idol” as a free stream on Soundcloud.  The bright, haze inducing pop is still a driving force behind this band.
