Australian Swagger from UV Race

11It’s a shame that Melbourne, Australia is so far away, otherwise it would be the first place on my vacation list.  Seems like every band I adore, or every band writing great hits hails from the city, or somewhere nearby.  The latest great jam comes from perennial rockers, UV Race.  On this new single, which comes from the group’s Queens of Punk 7″, they bring a chilled out vibe that features male and female vocal parts.  That alone would hook me, but I like the relaxed feel too, making it the perfect tune as we float into the summer. Oh, and the band will be making their way to Austin, as well as the rest of the US, starting this week.

Weekend Dance Jam: Sonen – Aiko

Caught this jam thanks to Bagel Radio out of San Fran via SomaFM. Ready to dance?

It is almost the weekend after all. Are you going to see Iron Man 3? I am. Maybe go see a band (scroll down for deets). Relax for sure. There have been a lot of shows coming through, plenty of stress. You sign up to win Jim James Tix?

Anyway, I share with you Sonen.

Interesting Pop From Radiation City

1323796924radiation_img05_hires

Radiation City is a band that I’ve always found intriguing with a unique take on pop music mixing in elements of jazz and synths into their sounds.  For those new to the band, below is a sample of what I’m getting at with new song “So Long”.  The driving beat throughout plays as a nice backbone to the chanting vocals and swirling keys/synths.  Stick around towards the end as the guitars finally kick in and provide a nice rocking bridge to finish out this beautiful pop tune.

New album Animals in the Median is due out May 21st on Tender Loving Empire.

Catchy New Wave From Selebrities

brayden_olson2I’ve always been a fan of the 80s sort of new wave revival that’s been catching on with a lot of bands recently.  Not to say that this new track “Temporary Touch” from Brooklyn based Selebrities is just a new wave song, but it definitely has that style at its core.  I’m feeling myself drawn to the soothing vocals from leading lady Maria Usbek as she sings longingly over Cure style guitars and bass.  Chills.

New album Lovely Things will be released June 25th via Cascine Records.

More New Music From Shannon & The Clams

ShannonAndTheClams1As the release of their new album, Dreams in the Rat House, nears its May 21st release date on Hardly Art Records, Shannon and The Clams want to offer us more free music.  This new tune to get you excited for the album release is called “Into a Dream” and features some of the things we love about this band.  Again you’ll hear the soulful old school style doo wop song with Shannon showing her range that could rival most anyone.  I’m expecting even better things from the band once we get to hear the full album.

New Americana Jam From Case Studies

CaseStudies_1At this point it’s probably not fair to refer to Jesse Lortz as the guy who used to head Dutchess & The Duke, but rather as the main man behind folky rock group Case Studies.  After debut release The World is Just a Shape to Fill the Night dropped a couple of years ago, it was clear that Lortz was ready to move on to bigger and better things.  Today marks the first new music since that release in the form of this new driving rock, almost bluesy tune “Driving East, and Through Her”.  I’m into it.

Fans should mark their calendars on June 11th for the release of new album This is Another Life via Sacred Bones.

New Pop From Steady Sun

734785838-1Brooklyn is a city that tends to throw all kinds of awesome pop music our way on a daily basis. This new song “Eyes Wide” from the biggest indie pop city in the world band Steady Sun is no different. It’s simple, airy, and a fun jerky sort of pop song that can’t be resisted by even the most unmovable music critic. Well, I like it anyway.

A full album entitled Good Evening is available for stream on bandcamp.

New Jams From Nude Beach

nudebeachNude Beach is a band that received tons of coverage from us last year with their incredible album II.  Hell, a spot on the top songs list AND the top albums list in the same year basically means you are ATH approved for life and can do no wrong.  The band may be in for another big year and are kicking things off with this new song “I’m Giving Up”.  Of course it’s a rock n roll tune with some super slick guitars that don’t seem to quit jamming until the song is done blasting through its 2 and a half minutes.

This is the B-Side on a new 7″ single with A-side “What Can Ya Do”.

Please Enjoy Splashh

splashhGood jams are good jams. They’re the sort of songs you can’t escape, the sort that haunt the interior of your brain and soul.  That’s the exact feeling I get when I listen to the latest single from Splashh.  It’s got a heavy-handed bass line that gurgles beneath, with a swelling distorted guitar that wraps around the rhythm section.  This gem of a tune will be playing non-stop until June 3rd, when the band’s album, Comfort, is finally received. I reckon that then I’ll have more songs from the band that make my musical soul swoon.

Nice New Tune from Wampire

WampireJust a bit ago I caught Wampire opening up for Foxygen and Unknown Mortal Orchestra; I said it then, and I’ll say it again: Wampire were the best band that night. They have this combination of California sun-pop with a bit of R&B swagger…even throwing in some alternative rock jamming moments.  They’re definitely one of those bands who I’ve been waiting to hear more from, which is a good thing since their debut Curiosity is coming out in two weeks from Polyvinyl Records.  It’s shaping up to be a pretty perfect record for summertime party jams.
