New Jam from Plateaus

Okay, so this isn’t exactly a new jam; it’s from the Plateaus self-titled album that I raved about just a bit ago.  But, they put this song out on the net yesterday, and it’s one of my favorite tunes from the record, so I had to have it up here on the net for you.  While some of their songs are faster and grittier, this one’s got a bit of pop polish, which is where I first found my love for the band.  There’s tons of punk rock and pop rock jams filled on their Art Fag Recordings debut LP, so if you pick it up now you’ll have plenty to sink your teeth into.

New Surfer Pop From Beach Day

With a name like Beach Day, it would be safe to assume that a band would have some surfer boy/summertime vibes to their sound.  Well these guys are going with the images and sounds their name conveys with songs that reinforce their namesake.  This new tune “Walking on the Streets” is a 60s, motorcycle driving, hazy doo wop style number that evokes modern bands like Cults.  It seems like a hot trend rolling through the indie music world and I’m totally cool with that.

This tune just came out yesterday via 7″ on Kanine Records.

New B-Side from Holopaw

I’m not sure where my infatuation began with Holopaw, but I’ll claim myself as a devoted fan of the group, perhaps with their early work from Sub Pop and Isaac Brock…and their impossible to find third album.  They’ve just joined up with Misra, who released a 7″ from the band, and will also be releasing Academy Songs Vol. 1 on January 15th (just before my birthday!). This is the B-Side from the 7″, representative of the band’s ability to move in and out of various musical spaces within the span of a single song.  It’s always been something I’ve adored, not to mention the sound of Orth’s voice on everything they’ve done. Enjoy this one.

New Dreamy Pop From Ash Reiter

It seems like ages ago that up and coming pop songstress Ash Reiter was here in Austin playing our SXSW garage party.  We honestly haven’t heard much from the band since then, which is oh so sad, but imagine our joy when we got sent this new jam “I’ve Got Something I Can Laugh About”.  It’s a heartwarming tune that’s reminding me why we booked the band to play that show a few years ago.  It’s dreamy and sunny, all the while being a nice breath of fresh air in the ATH offices.

A new LP entitled HOLA is coming out November 30th on 20 Sided Records.

New(ish) Music from The Garlands

Those of us in love with indie pop have been awaiting the release of The Garlands for what seems like an eternity, but the time is finally upon us.  The Swedish group has finally polished up their self-titled work, with a vinyl release date scheduled for November 27th via the folks over at Shelflife Records.  It’s going to be a very limited release, making the blissful pop a necessity for all the fans of such things.  The one song they’ve got up currently is full of energy and jangling goodness, not to mention lofty vocal melodies.  If you’re not digging this, then you have no heart.

New Music From Mystery Pills

Here’s a tasty little pop number called “Anit-Pattern” from South Dakotan Raj Dawson and his band/project known as Mystery Pills.  It’s a solid tune sort of similar to a more raw version of Scattered Trees or even some of the earlier stuff by Austin based Spoon.  Whatever comparison you want to make, I think we can all agree that’s it quite catchy and worthy of many more listens.

This tune is intended as a single only with more news coming soon about a full album.

New Beauty From Kirby Kaiser

Most of our loyal readers know that the ATH crew is all about the leading ladies with beautiful voices that can often times send a chill down our spine.  This new song entitled “A Little Longer” coming our way from Chicago based songwriter Kirby Kaiser is one of those songs that we find irresistible.  The songwriting is fairly simplistic and could maybe be considered a little juvenile for the young 20 year old musician, but hot damn, something about her vocal delivery is really doing it for me.  It’s sultry, it’s raspy, and it fits in perfectly with the doo wop style of the song.  This is the first new material from Kaiser since the release of her debut EP last year, which I highly recommend you check out on soundcloud if you haven’t.  She’s got what it takes to stay around for awhile.

Stay tuned for more information on upcoming releases from this upstart and promising artist.

More New Music From Sweet Serenades

Only a few months ago, I posted a new song by Swedish outfit Sweet Serenades after having not heard from them in quite a long time.  I was excited about that song, but this new jam “After All the Violence” is  easily my favorite song the band has ever put out.  It features some tasty dual vocal duties from Karolina Komstedt of indie pop band Club 8.  This song appears on a new album by the band, Help Me!, which is currently out on Leon Records and can by purchased digitally via iTunes.

Mellow New Tune from Widowspeak

When I first caught the live set from Widowspeak a few years ago at SXSW I immediately became a proponent of the group, so I’m glad news broke today of a new release comign from the group.  They’ll be putting out their second LP, Almanac, via Captured Tracks on January 22nd.  This first listen is fairly revealing about what we can expect, with the haziness of previous works a bit removed.  I’m interested to see how it all unfolds in the long-run.  Will it be too tame for my liking or yours? Only time will tell, but for now we’ve got this tune to enjoy.
