It’s hot here in Texas, but things are cooling down so I think it’s just about time you get your ass back out and go to a show. What show you say? Friday night is a great place to start with an all local lineup featuring many of our best and most promising bands. Alexalone and The Hermits will be headlining the the evening right before they head off on tour together. In the middle of the lineup is an old school ATH fave Zoltars who are sure to keep you rocking. Kicking things off you’ll be treated to Why Bonnie and More Eaze. Friday night, get there or be… a big loser.

Throwback Rock From FACIAL

I’m not sure why it is, but I’ve really been in heavy rock mode recently. Maybe it’s because summer is almost over and the music releases my inner anger of having to go back to work. Woe is me right? For whatever reason it may be, I’m keeping ATH heavy with this new track “Animals” from L.A. based trio FACIAL. To me it’s a throwback song full of 90s grunge themes but with a bit more urgency and downright power. Won’t you get heavy with me?

Facial will release Facade on on September 29th via Chain Letter Collective.

Heavy New Video From Absolutely Not

Not too long ago this summer, I shared a new song from rocking Chicago based group Absolutely Not. I’ve since become a follower of the band and have been spinning their music in the car and at home (it’s great for both). Well after having release new album Errors last Friday, the band just sent over this new video for album track “Blood Money”. It’s a lovely bit of heavy, sludgy, rock music. If you haven’t yet, get yourself a copy of Errors now.

Graceful Track From Hand Habits

This new song from Hand Habits is a winner. It’s the kind of track that just feels right– the kind of song that plays in your mind when the pieces of life all seem to fall together in their proper places. “yr heart,” is melodic and warm, with unapologetically romantic lyrics like “you are heat/you are serenity” that go tandem with the gentle folksy instrumentals comprised of lush acoustic guitar and soft percussion. Take a listen and fall in love a little bit.

This song is being released as a part of Saddle Creek’s Document Series. Pick up your copy here.

Yumi Zouma Return!

Yumi Zouma have returned with a new groovy single that is so dreamy you’ll be dying to stay rooted in its bliss. “December” is the perfect pop tune with yes, even handclaps! The track has twangy guitar parts that buzz along underneath the bright piano riffs that bounce above it all. Not to mention there are the effortless and subtle vocals that soar during the chorus and hold you firmly attached throughout. This track has got me so excited for the band’s sophomore record,Willowbank, which will be out October 6th on Cascine. Keep a close eye on Yumi Zouma–I know I will be.

Let Henry Nowhere Brighten Your Day

After a slew of some heavier tunes, I’m ready to switch gears a bit with this new song called “Don’t Care Where” from L.A. via Oakland based artist Henry Nowhere. What if The Drums made lo-fi pop in their bedroom? It would sound a bit like this. You’re in store from breezy, bright, and sunshine filled pop music. Easy listening if you will.

Henry Nowhere will release a new 7″ digital EP on September 8th featuring this track and one other. Pre-order from Sleep Well Records now.

Single Premiere: RAAVE TAPES

Ladies and germs, allow me to introduce you to Newcastle, Australia based outfit RAAVE TAPES and their impressively heavy sound. Their music definitely has some elements of bands you’ve maybe heard in the past, but never have you heard these elements all come together in one song. Think if Screaming Females managed to get even heavier and louder like say a Death From Above or Colourmusic, and you’d be pretty close. If you’re not one for comparisons, check out this new track “k bye” and let us know what you think. I’m sure it won’t disappoint.

The band will be doing some touring in support of this single and previous new releases this summer. Check out their Facebook page for more info.

Easy Rock From Post-Lovers

Post-Lovers is the Athens, Greece based project of Eleni Karageorgou. She’s got a new track out called “Melbourne,” which is part of her debut 7″. The song exposes some of what Karageorgou has in store for you– intimate indie rock in a minimalist setting. There’s a lovely level of sincerity and ease with this track and its jangly guitars and warm vocals, but I’m also digging the moments when the song picks up a bit as well. Check it out below and then go pick it up from the “A Distant Victory Singles Club” that Inner Ear Records is doing.

Check Out This New Nomads Track

And now for something completely different… If you couldn’t tell by my early morning song, I’m in a bit of a weird mood today and am looking to share some tracks you might not normally hear on ATH. Continuing that style is this track called “Megalophobia” from Brooklyn based artist Nomads. The song is completely instrumental and features an addictive beat throughout and some crazy rising action near the end. It’s totally addictive and continues to improve with each and every listen.

Nomads have been releasing a new song every month and will continue to do so until the end of the year. Stay tuned.

Get Weird With Tinkerbelles

It’s Monday people and I think we could all use a little pick me up with a touch of weirdness to get us through the day. My new friends from Chicago, Tinkerbelles, are here to give us just such a song with “Cannibal Tokyo Rainbow”. Be ready for a sludge rock, psych tinged tune that’s heavy as hell and also incredible intricate and tight. If you’re looking for something a little different, hit play now homies.

Tinkerbelles will release Confetti at the Bottom on August 22nd via Brash Tracks (pre-order).
