I know it’s a cover, but Junior Kimbrough’s “Meet Me in the City” off of Chulahoma, always does it for me. There’s a solid but mellow, sloppy but intricate groove with that classic North Mississippi style and bass note thump that Kimbrough played. Which is I guess, why I love it. This is the sound that the Keys managed to bring roaring into the new millennium. Keep rocking.

Surprising. Based on his rollingstone comments earlier in the year, something about this album being a departure from his past projects, and a revealing look at his divorce, and various other heavy issues. So i’m picturing some inaccessible, avant garde, weird project…

And then I listen to it and it sounds like Lit. Very poppy.

My favorite has got to be “Things Ain’t What They Used to Be” off the Attack & Release album. The lyrics and vocals during the hook will tug at your heart strings. It also marks the first time i heard Dan Auerbach’s protégé Jessica Lea Mayfield (background vocals), who is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

“I got Mine” hands down. Never heard the song until I saw them live at ACL this year and its been stuck with me ever since.
A bad ass song to compliment the bad ass sense of being you get when you listen to this song full blast in your car.
A definite sing along to those that wish to be arrogent at heart.
