Gross Relations Bring Out Another Single

grossrelations_masksRayRay posted the first sweet jam from Gross Relations less than a month ago, and I have to follow in his footsteps in order to bring you this new single from the band.  This new single still maintains the group’s lo-fi aesthetic, at least in so far as the recording goes, but personally, I’m feeling a hint of 90s alternative rock.  No, it’s not “Cumbersome,” unfortunately, but those of you who grew up with 90s radio will probably hear the same sort of catchy accessibility, while still seeing that the group isn’t just pandering to fans by making watered-down alterna-rock.  Their self-titled album will be in stores next week from the dependable folks at Old Flame Records.

More New Music from Alligator Indian

alligatorEarlier this summer we brought you the first single from Alligator Indian, so why not make it two for two by bringing you another hit from the band.  The band is working hard to build up their name before the release of their More Songs About Animals and TV EP, which is available on September 17th from Bleeding Gold Records.  This tune has a bit of a different approach, with a slow trotting tune that maintains a bit of the odd emotion, while still utilizing the group’s R&B influences.  There’s a haunting female vocal bursting throughout, only drawing more attention to the main vocals.  Hope you like this one too folks.

Austin Spotlight: The Harvest Thieves

a1146701711_10As ATH has always been a big supporter of Guns of Navarone, we were overly excited when our friends in the band sent us over music from a new project they’ve been working on.  This Austin supergroup going by the name of The Harvest Thieves features members of the aforementioned Guns as well as East Cameron Folkcore and Bankrupt & The Borrowers.  Already the new group have an EP entitled Lightning in a Bottle up and available for download over on bandcamp at a “pay what you want” set up.  I’m finding myself immediately drawn to the 2nd track  from the EP “Escape From the Paper City”.  It’s clearly a country/americana themed tune with an almost anthemic sound and an extremely full sound that drives the song home.  It seems rare that we find this kind of quality Texas themed sounds in this town anymore and I couldn’t be more excited about this new project.

Stay tuned for more.

More New Music From Terry Malts

terrymaltsATH loves Terry Malts and we hope that they love us just as much in return.  With that out of the way, it’s due time for us to share another new track from the bands upcoming album entitled “Walking Without You”.  It’s loud, it’s fast, and daddy likes it.

As previously mentioned, Terry Malts have a new album called Nobody Realizes This is Nowhere due out September 10th via Slumberland Records.

Show Pics: Knifight @ a Benefit, Daughn Gibson @ Red7

I love nights when I can see a bunch of bands, SxSW style, bouncing back and forth between venues to be able to see acts we have talked about here, but not yet seen live and still manage to check out the headliners we dig. Last Thursday was one such night. We had the Attendance Records Benefit at The Mohawk that featured ATH local favorites Knifight and a show at Red7 headlined by Daughn Gibson that included fresh locals Silk Rodeo in an opening slot.

In total, pics of four bands, a few whiskeys, plenty of friends and I get to say I did it “for the kids”. Well, half of it, anyway. Click through for random thoughts and plenty of pics…

Summery B-Side from The Eversons

theeversonsI really enjoyed listening to Summer Feeling from The Eversons when it was released recently.  The group are still promoting the record, and so they’ve released a brand new single, which features “Stick Around,” a new B-side; it’s featured on their new “Creepy” single.   I like the jangling delivery of the guitars, but I also like the feeling of the vocals and their nonchalant exuberance.  That’s one of the attributes of the group that made them so much fun to listen to in the first place; they’re light hearted and catchy, making the group something easy to digest and enjoy.  Don’t believe me? Take this song for a spin!

New Music from Blouse

blousesI’m really digging the sound of the new Blouse tracks; this is their second official single for their upcoming record.  While the vocal delivery is seemingly spoken-word for the majority of the track, it takes on a more airy delivery during the chorus.  I really think it’s a good touch, especially considering the rest of the music is subdued, aside from the random bits of water droplets splashing in the background.  Eventually, the song fades away into nothing, which is a nice added touch.  The new record, Imperium, will be out on Captured Tracks on September 17th. Game, Blouses.

Austin Spotlight: She Sir Stream New Single

shesirLong have we supported the dream pop of local Austin band She Sir, and it’s about time that the band has their new record ready for you!  Good news comes your way, in that regard, with the band streaming their second single from the upcoming LP, Go Guitars.  On the latest single, you can hear the work of a band who’ve clearly honed the art of writing sensational pop.  There’s steady drum work in the background, with strokes of synth placed in all the right places, maximizing the enjoyment for listeners.  Looks like we won’t have to wait too much longer to hear the beauty in its entirety!

Shiny Pop From Fiancé

521628_202255503270273_1364790402_nI know very little about this new band Fiancé who hail from Newark, Delaware.  What I do know is that they create some nice and shiny pop tunes like this one below called “Summer Tunnels”.  I’m immediately drawn to the summer style of the song with it’s breezy feel and incredible pop overtones.  Let’s hope that we’ll hear more from this band sometime soon.

New Music from The Ocean Party

theoceanpartyMy affair with The Ocean Party comes via my adoration with Velcro; both bands share member/guitarist, Curtis Wakeling.  The group is gearing up to release their next album, Split, which will feature a more shared role in the songwriting duties for all members of the band.  Just listen to the way the guitar chords wrap themselves around the vocals on this first single, “Split.”  There’s a subtlety to the track, breathing beautiful guitar-monies throughout the tune.  I’m excited to hear the whole effort, as I’d like to see what the rest of the band bring to the table.  Guess we’ll all find out on September 27th, the release date, but for now, this’ll do.
