IMG_1455You know we love our boys in Grape St, and we’re excited to share a brand new tune from their fresh new album, Wallpaper.  This latest single displays Curtis’ further progression in songwriting, moving further away from his old group Harlem and into territory dominated by an incredible knack for pop sensibility. It seems like every song on this new record is built for a huge sing-a-long with your friends…but with a little style and flare.  You’ll be able to grab the new record from Burger Records this October; it might just be his best work to date…and be sure to catch the band’s first LP A Date with You, HERE.

We’ve got Slow, Jonly Bonly, Shivery Shakes, Grape St. and also Young Girls. I’m going to toss out a little love to each band every day before the show, in hopes you’ll come join us. Austin Spotlight: Brand New Grape St. Track!!!

10606255_811918515519334_6116597443649835805_nAs you know, we’ve long been supporters of Grape St., the band fronted by Curtis O’Mara of Harlem.  We love them so much we put out their first LP, A Date With You.  But, like all good things, they must come to an end, which is why the band is moving up to release their next LP with the folks over at Burger Records.  If you’ve watched the band live, you’ve probably heard “Wallpaper;” it’s been a huge staple in their live sets.  They’re going to be taking that live set to the West Coast in a few weeks, bringing with them a tour only cassette with the below tune; it’ll also be featured on their next LP, which is slated for a release later in the year.  Come on, this tune’s just so good. Jam it loud.

The temperature in town is heating up, and that means summer time rock shows are on their way.  We’ve got a great show for you to hit up tonight, featuring the much-talked about NYC band, Skaters.  They blow into town with a fresh bit of pop rock, supporting the release of their brand new album, Manhattan.  But, as if an adored band wasn’t enough, the bill will feature local heavy-hitters, Shivery Shakes and Grape St.  Both acts are growing forces in the local scene, and both are in the final stages of finishing new albums…we’ll share more on that later.

Austin Show Spotlight: Grape St. @ Mohawk (2.24) FREE!!!

the_showoff_2-24_256_256_80_s_c1_c_t_0_0_1Under the masterful skill of their local booking agents, Mohawk has been working on the Showoff series in 2014, offering up Austin music fans free shows on Monday night featuring some great local acts.  This week’s line-up is no different, especially considering our adoration for Grape St.  Curtis and the boys are always entertaining, and if you need proof, you should pick up A Date with You.  But, it’s not all about these guys, with two other incredible acts starting off the night.  Low Times, who’ve been making a name for themselves for several years will start the night off, playing their darkened surf-pysch for your ears. The middle of the night will be filled by Sweet Spirit, which is the band that has sprung out of the ashes of now defunct, but still missed, Bobby Jealousy. You’ve got no excuse to miss free music with great bands…at least I hope you don’t.

athrecordsIn case you didn’t know, we have a small little label here at the site.  We’ve put out two great releases, and we have another in the works (featuring our first non-Austin band). Since it’s the holiday season, I figured I’d offer up a sweet deal to you folks. Once the rock n’ roll gets started, you’ve got to keep it going.  The best place to head on Wednesday night is over to Hotel Vegas for the Grape St. LP release; this is the band featuring Curtis from Harlem…seriously one of my favorite records of the last year.  Of course, you can buy it HERE if you’re not in Austin.  Just because we’re putting out the record, doesn’t mean you can miss a single of the opening acts; they’re some of our favorite, and the best, rock acts in town.  You’ve got Pharaohs kicking things off, with John Wesley Coleman and Rayon Beach warming up the crowd for all you folks. There will be balloons, A Date With You LPs, and just a ton of incredible bands.  It’s dirt cheap, so help support the local scene and come join us for this celebration.

A Date with You is the second release from our up-start label here at the site, and we’re really stoked to be working with Grape St., which features members from Harlem, Hello Caller and Frank Smith.  Honestly, I don’t really care what anyone says about this record; it’s infectious, and there’s not a bad song on here.  I hope you dig it; I hope you jam out with your clam out.  If you’re interested in purchasing it, you can pre-order the album HERE.

grape_st._cover12inchThe time is nigh for the second release from Austin Town Hall Records; I’m thrilled to officially announce that we’ll be releasing the debut album from Austin’s Grape St., A Date With You.  We’ll be doing a limited run, which will be released on March 12th, and I assure you, you’re going to want to get your hands on this, as their likely to go quick.  For those of you not in the know, Grape St. features members of Harlem, Frank Smith and Hello Caller, so you know you’ve got some heavy hitters writing songs.  I chose this jam to share with you (along with another single) because in my eyes it demonstrates more than one direction the band is going.  It’s not all clever hooks and bouncing beats…I particularly dig the horns.  Pre-orders for the album will be up in a few weeks.

Don’t forget Austinites! They’ll also be playing with Residual Kid and Calm Blue Sea this Friday!
