Last Week’s Jams (8.7 – 8.11)

Admittedly, we might have outdone ourselves last week; I’m fairly certain I’m the one to blame. Somehow, we tossed up 40 songs, though a few are unavailable in the streaming sites, so you’ve only got 38 tracks on this week’s playlist. There’s a ton of Austin stuff, with new music from Daiistar, Semihelix, Half Dream and more…obligatory A Giant Dog is in there and such. Plus, still continuously impressed by the magic that is Prewn. Oh, and Australia’s buzzing at the moment, and their music isn’t half-bad either, with new tracks from the Small Intestines and Soft Covers being considered as must listens. So, if you’ve got an hour or two to kill…go on and stream!

My pals in Advertisement are really having a strong resurgence here in late summer as they are dropping serious heat with some new singles. Already having shared the straight rocker “Victory,” the band returns today with a song more on the downtrodden side with “Nobody’s Cop.” You’ll find a more mellow approach paired with some alt-country and sort of Southern rock inspiration from the Seattle based band. Pre-orders for Advertisement’s new album Escorts are live now from Feel It Records.

Last Week’s Jam (7.10 – 7.14)

I’m sure you missed our weekly re-runs of all the fun stuff we post, but I was on vacation! So, I hurried this week to play catch up on all those tunes, then hurried with RayRay to get them up for your ears. We had tons of stuff covered, from ATX faves A Giant Dog to a premiere of the new track from Pretty in Pink; there was nothing short of a bunch of bangers to run…and some aren’t even up on the DSPs, so we couldn’t get those in the list. Anyways…peruse the hits below, go back and read what we had to say, or don’t, just be sure to enjoy yourself a bit.

Seattle based outfit Advertisement blew up onto the scene back in 2020 with the release of their stellar debut LP American Advertisement. Since then, only a few singles have dropped while the band toured extensively and prepped for a follow up to the debut. Well now your wait is over as the group just announced their sophomore effort Escorts with the release of this new single “Victory.” You’ll find a pure form of rock n roll that seems somewhat lost in the current landscape but is certainly welcome and fresh for this listener.

Pre-orders for the new album Escorts are live now. It’s due out September 15th via Feel It Records.

New Advertisement EP & Single

Seattle based rising band Advertisement had a huge year in 2020 with their debut LP American Advertisement, which received a whole ton of praise from us and a slew of other folks in the music media. Sometimes bands can let the hype get to them and allow their sound to go a bit stagnant, but not the case with this new single “Here it Comes”. No this one shows a band taking their grittier rock sound and naturally growing and maturing into a louder, more full sound with hints of 80s new wave and an infectious, driving style. You will want to check this one out today.

This track is part of Advertisement’s new Freedom EP which is live and streamable today!

Today I am pleased share with you fine folks this new tune called “My World Now” from our Seattle based amigos Advertisement. The song has this engrossing take on what I consider Americana rock inspired music which can be likened to older bands like Grateful Dead or something more modern like Fruit Bats. For me, it’s just the right amount of Americana twinged with subtle hints of psych to round things out.

Advertisement will release new album American Advertisement on July 10th. Pre-orders are live now.

Digging on This New Advertisement

I know that at some point, it was fairly sacrilege to say you listened to the Dead…mostly because that led to worse things like Phish or even Leftover Salmon. But, there was a period from the band that I still think upon fondly, mostly as its rooted in the way rock n’ roll grew up in America; it seems like Seattle’s Advertisement were taking note. Their latest track will trick you from the start, almost coming off like a discordant angular guitar tune…that’s just a few riffs. Soon, that all fades away for a deep family band feel. Guitars trade lines back and forth, piano tinkers throughout, yet it’s all so tightly structured that you cannot help but to be captivated. For my two cents, I always appreciate the family style approach to songwriting…and its pulled off excellently in this number. Look for the track to appear on a new tape for Smoking Room Records, with some October shows to celebrate across the States.
