It’s that time once again for another Rumble in Austin on Wednesday night at highly underrated Beerland.  Our lineup this week is the best one yet with Agent Ribbons, Not in the Face, and most recent ATH fave Black Books.  I don’t see much reason why you wouldn’t make it out to this free show featuring some of the best new talent Austin has to offer.  See everyone there!

Austin A2W: Agent Ribbons

I guess we here at ATH have been living under a rock for the last couple years because we truly have missed out on new Austin band Agent Ribbons.  The ladies in this band made way to Austin recently by way of Sacramento and have been making a name for themselves around town as of late.  On their upcoming release, Chateau Crone, these ladies of rock create a dirty garage rock sound most similar to Dum Dum Girls or maybe even a more psychedelic version of Best Coast.  Whichever way you want to call it, this band means business with the heavy garage pop sound they produce.  Below you can check out the band’s latest single called “I’m Alright” which is a true representation of the Agent Ribbons sound.  We’ll be keeping track of this band is the tour the country and return for more local shows later this fall.

Fang Island @ Emos (5/18)

Date Tuesday, May 18th
Location Emos
Doors 700p
Tickets $10 @ the Door

Not a whole lot has really been said or talked about in regards to Fang Island, of course, that’s if you ignore their glowing review on Pitchfork.  Their combination of guitar hooks with various electronic touches is precisely what you expect a band like this to be.  They’ve got larger than life swinging melodies, gang vocals (which you know are all the rage) and an overabundance of hooks.  Why wouldn’t you want to be there?  You can even catch sets from other bands such as Hollerado, Zlam Dunk and Agent Ribbons.  The best part seems to be that doors open early, so you can catch some great tunes, then head right back home for a decent night’s sleep. So you really have no excuse.
