Papercuts Release Past Life Regression + Share Video for Sinister Smile

I’ve made no secret of my Jason Quever adoration these last few months, knowing that it would all peak with the release of Past Life Regression. So, congratulations to Papercuts, and to you, as you can now spend your day immersed in one of the better LPs to drop this year. Plus, we get the added bonus of a new visual adventure to go along with “Sinister Smile,” which might be one of the record’s poppier tracks, at least in a certain sense. There’s something timeless about this whole record, drawing from all corners of the rock canon to craft a brilliant collection of escapism. Do what’s right, and rush off to buy Past Life Regression today, out courtesy of Slumberland Records. Stream the album HERE.

Devon Williams Shares Borderline Video

First, Devon Williams drops A Tear in the Fabric today after a six year hiatus; it’s a great collection of pop songwriting that’s unrivaled by most; you can stream it HERE, or buy it from the revered Slumberland Records. But, right now we’re here to share the video from one of the album’s standouts (they’re all standouts in my ear), “Borderline.” For many, this will be one of the easily accessible tunes, akin to Wild Nothing; it’s drenched in this wash of pulsing synth work and sharp guitar riffs, with Williams’ voice dancing around the track in unison with the pounding drums. Mike Cullen’s video matches that mood with these bright visual images, fading in and out of your screen; it’s like a kaleidoscope of pop sketches…kind of matching the collection of Devon’s work throughout the years. Love the song? Be sure to pick up A Tear in the Fabric today.

Michael Bain Readies Tidal Ways and Album Release

Michael Bain can usually be found playing guitar for local slow-pop outfit Sun June, but this year, he’s got some of his own fully-formed ideas to share with you under his own name. We’ve only got a handful of songs in our ears as of yet, but you’re in for something special indeed. On “Dad Rock” you get a to hear a sort of traditional indie rock vibe filled with more patience and open space; it allows for a sparkling beauty within the song you’ll only find with close ears. “So Far” sounds huge in it’s approach to pop music offering up a huge seductive swell right in the front of the mix, pulling back to tinker in the dreamier side of the pop genre (think Papercuts). In “Earthbound” you get the exact opposite of what one would expect from the title; it’s more of an ethereal track, almost like a lounge act in outer space. That’s just what you’ll get with Tidal Ways, an album filled with varying sounds loosely tied around the pop color-wheel. If you’re in Austin, Michael will bring these songs to the live setting Friday at Hole in the Wall; if you’re not and you love the songs, click on one and they’ll take you to Mr. Bain’s site to grab the LP!

David Israel Album Release Party @ Electric Church on Sunday Night

Sorry for the long-winded post title, but maybe that’s all your looking for! But, important information is at hand, as I’m hoping to direct you to the Electric Church on Sunday to celebrate the release of David Israel‘s The Year That Felt Like Two; we dropped it two weeks ago on ATH Records. For starters, the record is amazing, as is the artwork, so that should really be enough, if you’re an Austin music fan. But, a portion of proceeds will be donated by David and ATH directly to RAICES. Along with David and his band, you’ll also get to see El Lago, who I raved about previously, as well as Minimal Animal and TC Superstar. Stream the latest video from the album below; it ran over on RSTB earlier this week.

Doors are at 8, so be on time and we’ll see you there.

Talkies Have a New LP and a Tour

Talkies have changed up the line-up slightly since their 2016 effort, Bright/Sunny, but one thing that always remains in the work of Ray Seraphin is his knack for crafting infectious melodies throughout. Our first listen to new work has a bit of a poppy fuzz to it; a natural throbbing bounce kicks the pace, with a guitar knifing it’s way into the mix from the background. Sort of reminds me of this band the Comas, or maybe a more rock-influenced version of Grandaddy…it’s fuzzy, but centered around Ray’s uncanny ability to incorporate a hook. Everything we’ve heard from the new LP shows a lot of maturity and polish, leading us to believe that Kowtow‘s going to be a must have album. The group drop the album on July 13th with a wild show at Barracuda that includes Sweet Spirit, Mean Jolene and the Donkeys…they’ll spend the rest of the month traveling out West. Yippee Ki Yay and Electrify Me Records will be handling the distribution of said record…so get your wallets ready. Keep an eye HERE for all the tour dates.

Sun June Album Release Tonight at Spiderhouse

If you haven’t been reading the cool sites, then maybe you’ve missed the swirling hype surrounding Austin’s Sun June. Hype or not, we here at ATH can attest to the band’s talents, both live and recorded. Tonight they gather with friends and label mates to celebrate the release of their new album, Years; you can stream that whole LP right HERE. Daphne Tunes will kick things off, followed by the esteemed Julia Lucille. If you’re not fortunate enough to live in Austin, then go head over to our friends at Keeled Scales and grab yourself a copy there before it’s too late! Oh, and here’s the last single from the LP, and one of my fave tracks. Doors at 8!

Lola Tried Release New LP Tonight at Hotel Vegas

First off, you can also catch Lola Tried over at Waterloo Records at 5; there will be free Lagunitas. Second, the band’s new album celebrates its release over at Hotel Vegas, and we highly suggest your attendance. For starters, the band works super hard, not only for themselves, but to see others within the Austin “scene” become successful; it’s high time they got their day in the limelight. This is their debut LP, and you’ll be impressed by how accomplished they sound…probably from all that damned hard work! Plus, the show included perennial powerhouse, Ringo Deathstarr, Duncan Fellows and ATH Records’ own Blushing. And if you do listen, please go buy the record, so they can make another one. Here’s one of the jams off their new LP!

RF Shannon Album Release Party Tonight @ Ch’ups

It’s a fairly busy Wednesday night over in Austin city limits…the likes of Half Waif, Vagabon and Kenny Chesney, but why not go local? There’s a great release show for RF Shannon happening over at Cheer Up Charlies this evening. The group just released Trickster Blues, which in my opinion has some of the best songs they’ve crafted, but you have to get there early as there are other perennial ATH faves taking the stage. Diamond Center always puts on an enjoyable set, and Jesse Woods is bound to bring his balladry to the Cheer Ups stage. Doors open at 9, and the place will fill up quick, so be there early!

Feverbones LP Release Show @ Sidewinder (Tomorrow)

A few weeks ago we were super fortunate to release Dream Talk, the debut long player from Austin’s Feverbones (members of Shearwater, Abram Shook, Adam Torres…and every other great Austin band you love). Now we get to celebrate proper style, with the band playing tomorrow night at the Sidewinder to celebrate the album’s release out into the world. If you’re not in the vicinity of Austin, that’s okay, you can grab the copy HERE. They’ll be joined on the night by friends TOMA and Palm Daze, exhilarating acts in their own rite. Doors are at 8 PM!

Show Preview: Tele Novella Release New Album @ Barracuda Tonight

teleIt’s Halloween, or so it has been for the last few days, but it all culminates tonight. What better way to celebrate than by donning your favorite costume and catching Tele Novella as they release their latest album into the world; it’s a stunning piece of pop, btw. Plus, the band has worked hard to decorate Barracuda and create a haunting atmosphere. Still, you have to show up early as some of the best bands in town will help kick the evening off: Deep Time, Big Bill and Pollen Rx. This is one of those shows where you get to have fun with your friends, dress up in costume and enjoy some of the best rock n’ roll the city has to offer. Hope to see you there!
