If you’ve been a reader of our website in the past, you know that Abram Shook has long been one of our favorite Austin musicians.  That being said, you know the ATH team will be making it down to Mohawk tomorrow evening for Mr. Shook’s show celebrating the release of his new album Sun Marquee.  Let’s of course not forget the rest of the bill, with a solid undercard of Good Field and Royal Forest.  We’ll be inside rockin’ out all evening.

Pure X Ticket Giveaway + Show Preview

PureXCrawlingUpTheStairsThere’s been tons of great records being pushed upon the Internet world lately, but one that I’m personally excited about it is the new effort from Pure X.  Crawling Up the Stairs is on my list of anticipated albums, and it’s great that an Austin band is making such big waves.  But, in other news, they’ll be playing their album release next Thursday, giving us Austinites a chance to hear the new tunes live at Holy Mountain on Thursday, May 23rd; they’ll be joined by Troller and Versus.  And, we’re going to give away a pair of tickets to the show, which you can win by simply leaving us a comment.  Let us know what your summer plans are, even if you have a real job and are just taking a weekend jaunt.  We’ll pick the most exciting summer plan, and there’s our winner.  Contest will end on Friday at Midnight.

Show Preview: Frank Smith + The Preservation Album Release @ Holy Mountain (4.13)

Frank Smith

Date Saturday, April 13th
Location Holy Mountain
Doors 9:00 PM
Tickets $8

Hey there Austin.  Just a heads up, you have no business calling yourself an Austin music fan if you’re not going to this show on Saturday night.  For starters, there’s four of our favorite bands, and we like to think we have good tastes, so that’s important.  Second, both Frank Smith and the Preservation will be releasing their albums that night, and I’ve even raved about the new Frank Smith record HERE.  Also, you get to check out some other up-and-comers who’ve been receiving a lot of our attention in East Cameron Folkcore and Growl.  It’s cheap; booze at Hold Mountain is cheap; people are friendly. Don’t miss this opportunity.

New Jam from Grape Street + Album News

grape_st._cover12inchThe time is nigh for the second release from Austin Town Hall Records; I’m thrilled to officially announce that we’ll be releasing the debut album from Austin’s Grape St., A Date With You.  We’ll be doing a limited run, which will be released on March 12th, and I assure you, you’re going to want to get your hands on this, as their likely to go quick.  For those of you not in the know, Grape St. features members of Harlem, Frank Smith and Hello Caller, so you know you’ve got some heavy hitters writing songs.  I chose this jam to share with you (along with another single) because in my eyes it demonstrates more than one direction the band is going.  It’s not all clever hooks and bouncing beats…I particularly dig the horns.  Pre-orders for the album will be up in a few weeks.

Don’t forget Austinites! They’ll also be playing with Residual Kid and Calm Blue Sea this Friday!

Show Preview: The Eastern Sea (Album Release) @ Stubbs (6/22)

Date Friday, June 22nd
Location Stubb’s
Doors 1000 pm
Tickets $8 @ the Door

I know there’s some great shows going on this Friday, but one that everyone that claims to support the Austin scene needs to be at is the Eastern Sea album Release over at Stubbs. Their new album, Plague, is something I know that everyone will enjoy, crossing boundaries of indie rock and forging into well-crafted mass appeal.  This is definitely one of the Austin bands that’s on the rise, so come support the group before they hit the road.  And of course, if you show up early you get to see another solid Austin (via Michigan) artist, Dana Falconberry, who’s always worth your top dollar.
