Stream Mentalease’s New Album, Indian Summer

endienI love writing about Mentalease; the Ohio three-piece has a habit of gracing these pages quite frequently.  So why bring you more? Why the hell not?  I’ve been jamming to their new LP, Indian Summer.  The entire album is really something special, falling in line with some nostalgic shoegaze nods, though if I’m honest, the whole record sounds like the Terry Malts if you removed the caffeine.  There’s still a pop sensibility, but the songs unfold slowly, allowing for the group to really focus on maximizing their sonic exploration.  This is really a place where you can spend much of your time today, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Checking In with The Ocean Party

oceansEarlier in the fall, news of a new album from The Ocean Party trickled in, getting me excited, as I love the band and their work.  But, for some reason or another, I completely forgot about it, and didn’t even remember it was coming out until last week.  Since then I’ve been spending a lot of time listening to their latest LP, Soft Focus, which got a US release from the hardworking Jigsaw Records. So, since I completely forgot the album, I figured you needed to listen to it…also because it’s kind of a slow music week.  So, no need to hear myself talk, I’d rather hear your thoughts on this LP.

grownupsFriday’s are always good for folks to stream a good record, but there are other places to get your everyday fare of tunes.  I dug a little deeper to bring you the new LP from Native America, an act I’ve written about on these pages before.  They’ve got a little bit of garage rock, a hint of swagger and a nice dose of psychedelia, all adding up to some tunes worthy of your Friday listening pleasure.  Their new LP is titled Grown Up Wrong, and you can grab it from Inflated Records; enjoy your Friday folks.

Stream the New Album from Trans Upper Egypt

transThese boring little pages of ours have seen several songs pop up from Trans Upper Egypt, so I figured why not give you the opportunity to listen to their whole new self-titled LP?  It’s music of the psychedelic sort, with the vocals often obscured in the mix while bass lines rhythmically bounce along.  Me? I dig the album; it’s different in a sense than a lot of the other “psych rock,” so it alone wins points for that in my book.  Monofonus Press will be releasing the album next Tuesday, but be a smart consumer, and listen in before you buy.

Shivery Shakes Stream Album Right Here!!!

shiverOkay, so due to my promise from Monday’s song post, I had to wait a few days to post the stream of the brand new album from Shivery Shakes; it’s titled Three Waves and a Shake.  Why should you care? Have you read Nicole’s review? Also, the band’s been working hard in the Austin scene for some time, and the hard work pays off with their debut LP.  And, you know that I care because I’m putting out this LP with our friend Dan over at Punctum, so it means a great deal that you listen to it.  I’m putting up the Bandcamp stream, so you can donate to the band if you’re not into physical formats.  But, if you are, buy it from me HERE; it’s still a few weeks away from coming back from the press, but I’ll have it out to you as soon as it’s back to me.  Sit back, relax, enjoy our friends in the Shivery Shakes.

 

Ramesh The King LP Release – TODAY!!! Album Stream

ramFor a kid born and raised in Austin, there are a handful of bands that hold a great deal of meaning to my life, at least in regards to growing up.  Voxtrot is one of those bands, so it has been an absolute pleasure for me to work with Ramesh, one of the main songwriters in the group.  He quietly released The King digitally earlier this year, and we here at Austin Town Hall Records are releasing the album TODAY on vinyl.  It’ll be at all your local shops, but you can also grab it from us online HERE. And, if you’re lucky enough to live here in Austin, Ramesh is playing his album release show at the Belmont on Thursday night with She Sir and Mahogany.  It’s going to be a great night in honor of this great release.  I hope to see you there, or ship you a record.

Stream The Sour Notes New Album – Do What May

DoWhatMay_LP_FrontCoverI could sit here and wax poetic about the hard-working folks in Austin’s The Sour Notes, but that probably wouldn’t do me any favors, or them for that matter.  What is important is that today we bring you a stream of the band’s brand new album, Do What May.  The record features guest spots from tons of locals like Sabrina Ellis and Brendan Bond, and it’s likely to help the band gain more traction as they brace for a much-anticipated gig at this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest.  In the mean time, you can help them celebrate this Saturday at Cheer Up Charlies (more info HERE).  Enough of all that; here’s their great new LP.

Austin Spotlight: Stream Southern Boutique’s Album

sbThere’s always been a bit of mystery in the work of Southern Boutique, comprised of members of the now defunct act, Tiger Waves; they’ve always remained relatively hidden, choosing to focus on recording great songs.  So, it comes as no surprise that they quietly began to stream their album today, asking for little other than your pure enjoyment, and enjoy you will.  I’ve always admired the boys for their craftsmanship, and their focus on perfecting every inch of tape is evident throughout the entirety of this LP.  There’s no word on when it’ll have a physical release, but just take some time today to drift away this afternoon with one of Austin’s best kept secrets.

Stream The New Andrew Jackson Jihad Album Now

AJJ Oh you’ve never heard of the punk folk stylings of Phoenix’s Andrew Jackson Jihad? Well, lucky for you their upcoming fifth album, Christmas Island, slated to come out May 6th, is streaming for your convenience over at the A.V Club. Sounds like the band has re-imagined their sound a bit with these new tracks, delving back a bit to get innovative again: so far, I especially like the ragtimey piano parts that jump out immediately. These gents, in addition to launching this new album, are about to embark on a monster tour, which begins at our very own Red 7 on June 2nd. So scoot on over and have a listen, fall in love, and get ready to jam with them come June.
