Ciel Share All My Life

When Ciel dropped their Movement EP back in April, I was pretty awestruck; I played “The Shore” on repeat for weeks on end. They return today with a brand new track, drawing from similar territory, though raising the bar on their own sweetened brand of dream pop. Things start off as you’d expect, nice thick rhythm and softened vocals. But, the change in attitude at the 45 second mark indicates that the band intend to go huge on their new wave of songs; this is still dreamy, but they’re not burying any hooks here…just the opposite. Probably going to have this tune stuck in my head for a bit…how about you?

New Single from Table Tennis Dreamer

While moving from Austin to Chapel Hill, John Waldo Wittenmyer had to find a new creative outlet, despite the recent success of his band TOMA. He wanted to explore the same thematic references, with music’s evolution as a sign of personal and spiritual growth, and that led to Table Tennis Dreamer. Below we’ve got the first single from the new project; it’s build more electronically than previous stuff we’ve heard from Wittenmeyer, but you can hear the ebbs and flows of his own recent travels from within the confines of the song; I love how there are layers upon layers of vocals, main and backing, almost creating this wall of melody that surrounds the listener. Keep an eye out for new music, as Randall, Vol. 1 is on the horizon.

ATX Spotlight: Pleased to Meet You, Daphne

I’m clearly a big fan of Santiago, who writes tracks for Growl and Rain Collectors, but he’s been quietly working on a new project, Daphne. Today, he shared a video of himself playing one of these delightful new tracks. Aside from the quality of the video, I’m partial to hearing Santiago’s voice with it’s little vocal inflections as he chases after higher notes. No word on a release in the long run, but why not just be grateful we’ve got more great music from one of Austin’s best.
