Nylon Summer Music Tour @ Antone’s (7/1)

It’s finally July and what better way to celebrate summer with a mini-festival being put on by Nylon Magazine at Antone’s on Wednesday night. We call it a mini-festival because the lineup for the late afternoon/nighttime show features 4 incredible acts that should tickle your fancy. The lineup includes showman Patrick Wolf headlining, Living Things, Plastiscines, and long time ATH fave Jaguar Love. Tickets for this big show are only $15 so we suggest you make plans to be there for this extremely cheap show. Doors are at 6pm and first act starts at 7pm. If you don’t like the idea of being at Antone’s for so long, get there early, get stamped, and come and go as you please.

Quiet Company @ Antones (6/26)

A recent local find by us, Quiet Company, are playing a show at Antone’s on Friday night and have some surprises in store. To start off, the band will be joined on the stage by fellow locals The Mercers, Zookeeper, and Wiretree as openers. Tickets will cost you $10 online or $15 for a ticket and a CD. To make things more enticing, the band has a deal with do512 that allows you to get a free 9 song EP, a chance to win tickets, and a 50% off deal just be liking the event. Like they could do anything else to make you want to go. Do it!!!

Usually a show we’re interested in attending rarely goes the route of Antones, but a venue known for its pristine seemed like the exact place one would want to witness the soaring sounds of Camera Obscura. We’ve had our calendars marked for Camera Obscura coming to town ever since we fell in love with their new release My Maudlin Career. So now the time is here and lucky for all us fans, the Glasgow band is playing two shows on Monday! First up is an intimate stripped down Camera set at Waterloo Records around 1pm. Second is a full on proper set around 9pm at Antone’s downtown. Hellz yeah! The late night show features opening support from Anni Rossi and an entrance fee of $20. Check out one our favorite jams from the last year below and tell me you aren’t pumped up for this one!

Despite our minor disappointment in the new White Denim album, the band is still arguably the best local live act around. Lykke Li In Austin (2/19)

Swedish indie pop sensation Lykke Li will be making a much anticipated stop in our little town this Thursday. Your first chance to see her live comes at a Waterloo in-store starting around 5pm. Later in the evening, You can catch a full set by the singer at Antone’s. If you’re planning on heading to the in-store, get their super early because the Antone’s show is already sold out. Give craigslist a try if you just can’t miss out.

New Music From Heartless Bastards

New residents of our little town and recent Woxy performers, The Heartless Bastards, have a new album coming out in February and are sharing new single “The Mountain” from the album. The new LP, The Mountain, is set to be released via Fat Possum Records on Feb. 3rd. We also just heard from Do512 that the band is headlining the Bush retirement party on the 20th at Antone’s next week. Tickets are available for that event over on the Act Blue website for $20. The band was also recently confirmed for the SXSW festival in March.

ATH Interviews: Calexico

ATH recently had the good fortune of chatting it up with famed songwriter Joey Burns about his Tucson based band Calexico. Ben Kweller will be following up The Mountain Goats show at Antone’s on Saturday night with his own set at the classic venue on Sunday.
