We got some great music last week, either in single form, or in album form, so we’re grateful for last week. We collected all the jams from last week and put them on your doorstep in this light little playlist. We start off with the great new Say Eyed Beatniks tune, which incidentally is not called Hysterial Roosters, but rather “Hysterical Rooters.” Plus, our friends in Good Looks announced an LP with our other friends, Keeled Scales, so double win there. And, there’s a few jams from great records from Artsick, Good Good Blood and Jana Horn, so sit back and enjoy the day. P.S…I thought I was clever bookending it with Bay Area hits.

Didn’t really find a lot of stuff that I wanted to run up on the site today, so here I am to let you find some albums you can stream and enjoy today. With bandcamp links, because the band’s deserve the money!

Good Good Blood – The Dizzying Parade

The album title is apt here, as the construction throughout these ten songs take light guitar pop and filter it through this dizzying blend of atmospherics that help you to escape the classic feel of a Friday.

Artsick – Fingers Crossed

We’ve written about this record quite a bit, and watching my kid dance around our playroom while it spins in the background has been a real joy. She only has one move, but its sweet. This record, on the other hand, has 11 rambunctious pop jams to enjoy.

Jana Horn – Optimism

Our friend Jana has the most spectacular voice for your Friday, or your every day. We’ve been fans of her work for some time, and now you can all join in the joys by streaming the release of her latest batch of tunes. It’s such a striking listen.

Kids on a Crime Spree – Fall In Love Not in Line

This is the second album dropped by Slumberland Record today that’s just full of pogo-power; you can blend dreaminess with infectious hooks and smash the pop charts! Plus, if you grab the album, it comes on a cool LP format. Bop on my friends!

The Suncharms – Distant Lights EP

After releasing their debut LP, the Suncharms follow that up with this quick little collection of tunes that give you a new glimpse at one of the tune’s from said record. Plus, that “Telescope” ditty should get you through the day.

Well, we’re back at it folks, scrambling back into the new year, which feels an awful lot like the last year, except, well, there are new tunes. I didn’t go too overboard, as I was trying to get my feet underneath me for another semester, so we only had about 10 news jams, but unfortunately, only 9 are available via everyone’s least favorite streaming service. Most of these are brand new singles, with a heavy focus on the forthcoming Slumberland catalog, courtesy of Artsick and Kids on a Crime Spree, plus some of our favorites like Modern Nature, Nah… and Husbands reminded us what they’re all about. So, have it. Stream on!

Artsick Share Look Again Video

Artsick‘s forthcoming debut record, Fingers Crossed, is high upon our suggested listening for this year, but while we wait for its official release on January 21st, the band have offered one more single to grab your ears. I think “Look Again” is an excellent choice, as it shows the more patient side of the band; the previous singles have played the more frantic endearing noise pop perfectly, so here’s a little switch. This tune has the guitars a little more steady, almost feeling like they’re lower in the mix, allowing for Christina Riley’s voice to take the spotlight here. I knew it, but now you can be assured you’re going to get an array of pop delights if you grab the LP from Slumberland Records.

It’s weird that the musical year sort of just stops once everyone puts out their year-end lists, but since that’s the case, this week’s playlist is just a mere 13 jams to get you through the week. It might also be the last playlist of jams we put up in 2021; if everyone’s taking off then I am too, dammit! But, there’s a lot of jams to be had in this list, like the opening jam from Artsick. Plus, you get some new Austin love from Blushing and A. Sincliar, then a few hits from Japanese acts like Merry Christmas and Nicfit. Whatevers, indulge yourself.

I know we’re all clamoring over year end lists for 2021, but please, reserve a spot in next year’s list for Artsick; the band have only dropped two singles from their forthcoming LP, but already I’m saving it a place. This is the sort of frantic ramshackle pop meets punk that got me to jump ship full on into indie rock. It only takes 20 seconds for the waves to wash in and bring thumping drum work; the rhythm section drives the tune forward, bouncing it while Christina’s voice soars atop. Backing vocals also aid in delivering a satisfying bit of infectiousness, guaranteeing the song sticks in your brain all day long! Plus, the video should get bonus points since it was directed by Christina, who also is the sole character in it; I mean, can you direct a video and star in a video, all for a song you wrote?! That has to create some sort of black hole. Regardless, Fingers Crossed is out on January 21st via Slumberland Records.

We’re here with your weekly addition of Last Week’s Jams, with a slight little spin on things this week. For starters, there were certainly some jams on our pages, so we hope you’ll revisit…may I recommend the Crabber record again? Plus, you’ve got the new hits from Slumberland Records (who had a killer week in our eyes). And, in the end, I threw in a couple of tracks from shows we were able to see last week, or the week before, just as a reminder for us when we listen to our own playlists! Christina Riley has certainly been keeping herself busy as of late, as a member of Boyracer…and I’m pretty sure she shot the video for the Kids on a Crime Spree video too…but this time, we’re talking about her new project Artsick. The project came about as Christina was relishing working on collaborating, so she grabbed Mario from the aforementioned Kids, and Donna from Lunchbox to create the most delicious bit of ramshackle pop you’ve heard in years. It’s noisy and boisterous, bouncing and joyous, yet tightly wound around a saccharine melody you’ll want to sing around your house all day long. The only bummer? Well, you’ll have to wait until January for Fingers Crossed to hit stores courtesy of Slumberland Records.
