Title Track From Barbarossa’s Imager

BarbarossaNathan forwarded this track over to the IT Dept. and within a few seconds of clicking the stream it link, I knew I was going to post it. Tones, contrast, waves progressing and complementing, a controlled vocal effect…

Barbarossa is James Mathé, he comes to us with an impressive resume, working with Jose Gonzalez and Junip, has a couple of solo records already, but the latest is aimed squarely at the IT Department. Gradually layered, but with spaces between, melancholy and elegant, you can download the title track at the site linked for the price of an email address. The album is due May 11th on Memphis Industries.

Smooth Dance with Barbarossa

barbarosaI’d be remiss if I didn’t post this track, as I’m really warming to the sound of Barbarossa.  On this song, the bass line works just beneath the vocals, providing a groove that gets your feet moving.  However, the track also has this bright pop explosion that bursts forth during the chorus that makes the song more than just a minimal electronic dance number.  You should all be on the lookout for the new record from the London producer on August 6th when Memphis Industries releases Bloodlines.

Pulsating Tune from Barbarossa

barbarossaThe last few years has seen some incredible voices come into the foray, such as Justin Vernon.  I don’t know why, but when I think of Barbarossa singer James Mathe, I get the same sensation from him.  While he started out as more of an acoustic troubadour, you won’t see that in the rhythmic pulse of his latest single, “Turbine.” You’ll find the song on his latest effort, Bloodlines, which is being released by Memphis Industries on August 8th.  By all accounts, this won’t be a stripped down affair, as Mathe aims to broaden his sound.  But for me, it’s all about the voice–just take a listen.

Electro Goodness from Barbarossa

1775When I first heard this new single from Barbarossa, Hot Chip sprang to mind.  The groove and the vocals do bear some resemblance, but the song unfolds in a different manner.  As opposed to an over-sexualized nerdiness, this track unfolds in a gentle manner, showing more restraint.  It’s not a club banger, but there’s a soothing mood created.  James Mathe is the man behind the music, and he’s just signed with the heralded Memphis Industries to release his first single, which we’re featuring below.  You need a mellow electro jam? Look no more.
