Our good friends Knuckle Rumbler are throwing down on a party tonight at Beauty Bar called Adi Fest.  Who is this Adi person you say?  Well he’s one of the most widely known music journalists in town currently working for the Austinist.  As always with a KR event, expect great things like an Alison Narro photo booth, DJ Prince Klassen spinning in bewteen sets, and of course the complimentary beverages that start at 8pm and end when the free booze is gone.  Music for the night is all tribute bands and includes Stonefree Experience (Jimi Hendrix), Cheap Sunglasses (ZZ Top), and Magnifico (Queen).  This is definitely the place to be on Friday night.  RSVP at Do512 for $5 entry.

We’ve made it well known on our little webby site that we are big fans of local boys Frantic Clam and their musical stylings.  So here’s another chance for us to plug them and for you to see them live at Beauty Bar on Thursday night.  This show is to celebrate the release of the band’s new EP which serves as a teaser to the previously mentioned upcoming LP Lolita.  Fellow locals MoTel Aviv, The Pons, Candi and the Strangers, and DJ Chzech One will all be on hand to join in the fun.  You’ll also find a photo booth sponsored by Trevor Ray and free Treaty Oak Rum(while supplies last).  Admission to the event is free before 10pm and only $5 after that ($3 with an RSVP on Do512).  Check out sponsoring website Two Groove for more info on the event.  How bouts some olllllld school FC below?  Geez we knew about them like wayyyy before you did.

We’re back, and just in time for free week in Austin!  Where were we during this holiday season?  None of your damn business!  So as we get back into regular posting mode for 2010 let’s go over a few recommendations for you upcoming week of free shows.  We’ll give you one, yes just one, recommendation for each night starting tomorrow.  If we haven’t made it crystal clear already, all of these shows are completely free if you are 21+.  Happy New Year!

Tue(1/5): Red 7 with Cruiserweight, Lemuria, O’Pioneers!!!, and The Anchor @ 9pm

Wed(1/6): Emos outside with Brothers & Sisters, The Laughing, Ovenbirds, Oh No Oh My @ 9pm

Thu(1/7): Mohawk outside/inside with Brazos, TV Torso, Great Nostalgic, Ume, Transmography, Daniel Francis Doyle, and Many Birthdays @ 9pm.  (If you aren’t watching the national championship game of course)

Fri(1/8): Emos inside with Ume, Speak, The Authors, The White White Lights @ 9pm

Sat(1/9): Stubbs inside with Leatherbag, The Pons, and Danny Malone @ 9pm

Sun(1/10): Emos inside/outside with A Giant Dog, Bad Sports, Cause For Applause, Elvis, Red X Red M, Woodgrain, Eagle Claw, ODEZCO, and Expensive Shit @ 9pm

All times are for doors opening and not start times for music.  Shows will generally start around 10pm at each venue.  Please remember that this is not a complete list of free shows for the week and one can check out the Mohawk, Emos, Red 7, Beerland, Stubbs, Beauty Bar and Parish websites for a full list of shows.

If you need a little bit of dancing this Monday evening, then there is only one place you absolutely have to be, and that is at The Mohawk. Danceable duo, Junior Boys will be breaking it down all night with Circlesquare and Missions, guaranteeing you a rocking night of killer dance tracks.  And if that’s too early for you, the band will also be DJing over at Beauty Bar after Midnight. Put those dance shoes on and hit the floor.

Men is two parts Le Tigre, and they will be making their way to Austin this Wednesday night at the Beauty Bar. It seems that the group is predominantly the work of JD Samson, but there are other contributions from her former band-mates. Men will be hitting the stage with Gretchen Phillips. Sounds like a danceable way to spend your hump day.

One of our favorite acts during SXSW, Golden Animals, are returning to Austin for a night of psych rock at Beauty Bar on Wednesday.  Fellow “Golden” act All in the Golden Afternoon will be providing opening support for the event.  Cover charge is $5.
