Big Bill Residency and Brand New Single

Our long time favorites, and ATH Records alumni, Big Bill are here to make sure that the month of June is as exciting as ever; they’re kicking off a residency at The Electric Church this very night! They’ll bring along their friends every Friday and provide you with an evening of great Austin music and, likely, sweaty fun.

In celebration of their residency, the band has just uploaded a brand new single (rumored to be on a forthcoming LP). I love the playful exuberance in the song, especially once they get things going with the shuffling guitar chords and rolling drums. This could be the hit dance crazeof the summer (I think most showgoers in Austin already have it down!). Come on out to the Electric Church tonight and be sure to buy the song from the band so they can go make you more hits!

Mean Jolene and Pollen Rx Tour Kick Off at Hotel Vegas on Friday

Friday night, there’s only one place you really really need to be: Hotel Vegas. There’s a phenomenal show at Hotel Vegas, featuring several of the ATH Records act who are about to hit the road, namely Mean Jolene and Pollen RX. They’ll be joined by other powerhouse acts like Big Bill, Go Fever and Leather Girls (who have a rad new LP coming soon). Bands need money to hit the road, so come get yourself a cool t-shirt or an LP, then stay for the ridiculously solid line up of Austin acts. Stream some releases from the bands that I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of with ATH Records.

Show Spotlight: TV Girl + Big Bill @ Mohawk (1.11)

News in the music world seems unreasonably slow this week, so why not spotlight a show with one of our favorite artists, Big Bill, opening up with famed LA act TV Girl. They’re all there to celebrate the re-release of TV Girl’s classic, French Exit, which is now back in print. It’s a mash of hip hop beats, electronica, lo fi bedroom recordings…all spun tightly with a pop-centric attitude in mind. Big Bill will likely include a bunch of songs from their new LP they’re quietly working on…as well as our favorites. Oh, and if you were looking for cool points, Cassie Ramone of Vivian Girls fame will also be DJing between sets. Show starts at 8 with Poppet opening.

I do love Free Week. The day job keeps me from going every night, but ANY night of Free Week means seeing tons of friends on stage and off. This edition of Free Week photos features photos of Light Wheel, Big Bill, Night Drive, Rose Selavy, Letting Up Despite Great Faults, a tiny cupcake fail, ladder climbing, toasts, staples and so much more. Venues visited were The Mohawk, Cheer Up and Barracuda.

I’m going to post a few thoughts on the backside of the break. The short story is that Big Bill can’t lose, Night Drive is still my favorite dance party, Rose Selavy is rad as a three-piece, Letting Up can do the same and Barracuda was surprisingly packed.

Show Spotlight: Holiday Revue @ Cheer Up Charlies (12.17)

revueIn case you haven’t noticed, it’s holiday season, and what better way to celebrate than with a great Holiday Revue show, like the one at Cheer Up Charlies on Saturday night. The show features Botany, Big Bells, Wintertime Fun Band (members of BBall Shorts), David Israel and Shivery Shakes. As if the musical line-up wasn’t solid enough, they’ll also be holding a raffle with goodies from Super Secret Records, Western Vinyl and our ATH Records…plus much more. All you have to do is bring socks or underwear to the show to donate to ARCH, which with the cold coming in is definitely a worthy cause for us all to participate in. Show Preview: Tele Novella Release New Album @ Barracuda Tonight

teleIt’s Halloween, or so it has been for the last few days, but it all culminates tonight. What better way to celebrate than by donning your favorite costume and catching Tele Novella as they release their latest album into the world; it’s a stunning piece of pop, btw. Plus, the band has worked hard to decorate Barracuda and create a haunting atmosphere. Still, you have to show up early as some of the best bands in town will help kick the evening off: Deep Time, Big Bill and Pollen Rx. This is one of those shows where you get to have fun with your friends, dress up in costume and enjoy some of the best rock n’ roll the city has to offer. Hope to see you there!

Bill Ball 2 Is This Saturday + 7″ Release

billballIt’s that time of year folks…the time of year when Austin gets treated to the weird and the exhilarating…pretty much for the entirety of October…then it goes back to just being South Congress. This Saturday, Margin Walker is bring you Bill Ball 2 over at Sidewinder, and this line-up is pretty ridiculous: Big Bill, Deep Time, US Weekly, Basketball Shorts, Masculine Pain, Mom Jeans, Que Pasa and more…full details found HERE.

Plus…the show will also be a celebration of the new Big Bill 7″ featuring “Every City” and “Food Chain.” We’re putting it out via ATH Records, so if you can’t make it to the show, grab it HERE.

Big BillMan…the Big Bill ride never stops, never slows down. Friday, the band streamed their brand new Every City/Food Chain 7″, which we’re very excited to release. You can grab it HERE, or stream it below. But, because they want to work hard to make sure our city doesn’t suck, they’re also organizing a really great Bill Ball 2 for you to enjoy this Saturday at Sidewinder. Despite the busiest schedule, the band managed to organize a promotional video for you as well (Find it HERE)! And guess what? We’ve got it all here, today! Punk Rock Prom Tonight @ Swan Dive

promDid you miss your senior prom? Do you long for that nostalgic evening of love? Well, tonight’s the night, but let’s do it with punk rock flare! Join the masses over at Swan Dive this evening for Punk Rock Prom. There will be photo booths, drink specials and Punk Rock Queen and King…not to mention some of our favorite local punk bands. ATH bands like Big Bill and Basketball Shorts, along with Mean Girls, New China, Borzoi and more. You can read about the prom on the EVENT PAGE…and stream a few of the bands below.
