Show Preview: Red Bull Sound Select (1/15)

Red Bull Sound Select

Date 1/15/14
Location Spider House Ballroom
Doors 9pm
Tickets RSVP $3/$10 @ door

Our friends at Red Bull are presenting a nice little locals action to show off the talent brewing around here; this is a dance party version.

You get The Octopus Project, Night Drive and The Black & White Years. You can RSVP here. Why RSVP, you ask? Because with RSVP, you get in for $3 instead of $10 and you get to download a song from each of the artists. I mean, that is like actually buying three songs and getting to go to a show for free.

I have a feeling things will get crowded quick so be early and be cool. The Octupus Project doesn’t have any more shows listed after this, Night Drive sounded great at Red7 the other night and The Black & White Years have new hits. In fact, here is a track you should hear from B&WY…

The Black & White Years Return

The Black And White YearsIt’s been quite sometime since we’ve heard from local boys The Black & White Years.  Today we heard through the wire that the band have recently finished a new album for a planned release early next year.  Prior to that date, the band are sending out this new track, “Little One”, to drum up some publicity for the new album. When I hear the track, I think, “yeah that’s the Black & White Years”.  What does that mean exactly?  To me, the band has made a name for themselves as a dance-pop, almost experimental electronica sounding band, and that’s what I hear on this tune.  Count me in.

Get your hands on new album Strange Figurines on January 10th via Modern Outsider.

Black And White Years @ Stubbs (7/18)

bwhiteyrsThe Black and White Years have slowly started to make a name for themselves as one of the biggest draws in our town.  Chances to see them in smaller venues in Austin may be hard to come by soon so head to the indoor stage at Stubbs Saturday night for a set by the rock n roll outfit.  We’re more excited for the show because our good friends Whitman will be providing the opening support for the evening and start around 10pm.  Tickets can be had now for $8 or $10 at the door.  Here’s that catchy single by B&WY, “Power to Change”.

The ACL Top Ten

We decided to take a different route in reviewing the events of ACL and we thought a Top 10 List would be the way to go.  This isn’t just a list of our favorite bands, rather a list of the best things, moments, memories or any other tasty randomness we could come up with that went down over the weekend.  We obviously would love to hear what else we maybe missed from our list.  This isn’t just our opinion, it’s what we heard from you good peoples that attended this year’s ACL.  List is after the jump.
