Another Tune from Bart and Friends

When we gave you a heads up about the forthcoming mini-Lp from Bart and Friends, we warned you that Bart Cummings had amassed a who’s who of indiepop to work with him on the new record…and today we’ve got a track starring Pam Berry of Black Tambourine! This run is a fairly sedate affair, like a swinging back and forth with your partner on some late dancefloor as the lights begin to fade with you into the night. Heavy guitar works in contrast with Berry’s crystalline performance, giving off this wistful note. The song’s brief, but the 1:26 mark leaves you with the delightful crest where the jangling notes meet Pam meet Gary Olson’s trumpet for a final pop triumph! Classic Pop Track from Bart and Friends

Haven’t heard about Bart and Friends yet? Well, if you follow the Australian pop scene, then surely you’re aware of bands like Lucksmiths, Zebras and Black Tambourine…all which have members in this wonderful supergroup of sorts.  Of course, it doesn’t hurt that they’re releasing their There May Come a Time EP on one of our favorite labels, Matinee Recordings. This is precisely the sort of gems the label is known for, featuring some of the best pop you’re going to hear around the globe.  This tune has Pam Berry taking the lead, backed by  a steadied hand of gorgeous pop destined to make you swoon.  Give it a listen, give it some love.

New Ramones Cover from Black Tambourine! And EP!

One of the great acts in the Slumberland Records stable is Black Tambourine, a band that hasn’t exactly been putting out records for the last several decades.  But, as they reunite, briefly for the Chickfactor shows, the band opted to record a nice covers EP of their favorite Ramones songs.  This little gem will be released as a 7″, and they’ve chosen some real hits for their work.  One of the tracks they’ve recorded is my favorite, “I Want You Around,” but the track we’ve got below is “What’s Your Game.”  Rather than shredding guitars, they’ve replaced a nice atmospheric coating, slowing the track down a bit, and letting the melody push the track along.  For those of us that can’t attend the Chikcfactor shows, this is an added bonus.  You can pick up the OneTwoThreeFour EP on May 15th.

Black Tambourine Anthology Coming Soon!

Black+Tambourine+BT3If you haven’t gotten to know Black Tambourine, as very few did, then you’re lucky this time around, as Slumberland Records (the one who brought you lots of goodies like Pains of Being Pure at Heart) will be releasing an anthology of the band on March 30th.   BTambourine only existed for a few short years, but this new anthology will have four new songs (two originals, two covers) for your ears.  Just another thing to be excited about in 2010.
