Last Week’s Jams – (9.11 – 9.15)

It seems weird to say, but last week was the first time in a long time where I was able to find every song we covered on all the DSPs! Does this mean I’ve gone mainstream? Anyways, we had a few premieres running from the likes of Class and Alijca-Pop, so be sure to check those jams out.. And, as per usual, dipped our toes in the Austin pond, with new stuff from Holy Wire and the stream of Will Johnson‘s new LP. Oh, and we made sure we had as much Oceanic coverage as possible, throwing our weight behind Soft Covers, Native Cats, The Small Intestines and Exek! Give a listen to the singles below!

Latest Single from Bodies of Divine Infinite and Eternal Spirit

When I heard the first track from the forthcoming Bodies of Divine Infinite and Eternal Spirit, I was fully expecting an LP of pummeling psychedelia. But, on their latest single, things seem to have completely changed, which is fitting for a record where each song is named after various settings/moods. This one is completely peeled back, offering listeners the rawest form, with the video focusing entirely on Daniel Ward’s voice atop a very lightly strummed guitar. The rest of Bodies quietly join in to add a layer of light during the chorus, but you might miss it on first runs, as it’s just the faintest bit of nuance to this really stunning tune. Bodies release All the Songs I Know About Fire on October 6th via Dinosaur City Records.

Fresh Tunes from The Gotobeds

gotobedAdmittedly, I wasn’t into The Gotobeds until 12XU released the rad Poor People are Revolting in 2014; it’s a must have if you’re inclined to have a better record collection than your friends (and if you generally like rad music). In signing up with Sub Pop for the release of Blood/Sugar/Secs/Traffic, they’re not changing things up, churning out gritty riffs, raspy vocals wrapped inside a cocoon of pop sensibility. In listening to their first few singles, including this one, the sounds they’re crafting are destined to remain with listeners throughout the rest of the year…and longer; it’s no bullshit rock n’ roll of the best sort. Stoked to hear the entirety of this album, which is being released on June 10th.
