Body Double Share Carnation Island

When I turned on this Body Double single, I immediately thought it was going to be this heavy piece of cold post-punk. Sure, the first 40 seconds or so does feel like that, with this sort of industrial underbelly running through the track. But, get past that point and the tune opens up into this broad bit of hook-laden pop; the song soars in the chorus, bringing about this huge melodic rush to your eras. It’s the perfect juxtaposition too, letting the song bounce back and forth before it euphorically bounds to a punching close. If you’re digging on it, the tune is on their new Voice 2 Skull EP, out July 21st via Zum.

Body Double Announce Milk Fed LP

As I listen to the debut single from Oakland’s Body Double I can’t help but feel this sense of anxiety; there’s something about Candace Lazarou’s steady vocal delivery that just makes me feel tense. It’s like there’s this power being harnessed, unsure if its meant to be released and shared by the whole world, but trust me, it is. Once you push through that tension, there’s this animalistic pulse pushing the song, almost hurriedly, accented by sharp guitar shuffling. There’s a little angelic tease too, hanging in around the 1 minute marl, luring you with pop sensibility. That furious guitar riffage around the 1:50 mark is what I live for, might even remind make a nostalgic nod, but you be the judge. The band will release Milk Fed via Zum Records on September 18th.

Body Double to ReIssue Tom Diabo

diaboAt the age of 30, Tom Diabo had been battling cancer for seven years, and those seven years brought gifts that only his family was meant to hear…until now. Almost 30 years after his death, Body Double is releasing a collection of his songs under the title Dark Star. Musically, there’s a tragic beauty being presented right here on this single from the release; I was entranced almost immediately.  Diabo’s vocals are deep and hallowed, often looped on top of another. It’s really interesting and quite unique, thus I’m sharing with you, hoping you’ll be as intrigued; the release is scheduled for June 2nd.
