ATX Saturday Night Spotlight

Austin, I love you.As mentioned yesterday, there’s tons of things about town this weekend, so you should definitely consider yourself lucky.  Sure, there’s no pun-off this weekend, and old Emos has long removed their troth, but plenty of other great places in town will take care of you.   Hit up one of these shows, and enjoy your weekend. Don’t drink and drive. Or bike. That seems dangerous too.  Read more

Show Preview: True Sincerity Issue 1 Party – TONIGHT

truesincerityWe like to promote the greater Austin community, despite being told there isn’t one.  So today we’re encouraging you to hit up Cheer Up Charlies to party down for the release of True Sincerity #1, a quarterly journal by our friend Bryan over at Pop Press International.  Not only is he working on putting out a great little local zine, but he’s also organizing a great show to celebrate.  The line-up is full of bands we all love: it features: Borrisokane, Feverbones, Alex Napping, Tele Novella and Major x 3.   It’s a night to enjoy local revelry and celebrate the creativity of like-minded individuals in town.  Plus, it’s a chill spot to hang. Here’s a hit from Major Major Major to get you amped.  The show is free, with a suggested donation.

The 2014 Austin Music Blogger Awards

AMBA 2014 Photo BannerIt was a great event. We were proud to be a part of it.

I have a list of winners and so many photos. Orthy sounded great, buoyed by Ian and Jeramy’s win for best DJs as Learning Secrets. Shivery Shakes ripped after their win for “Sidewalk Talk”. Jess was charming and haunting as ever, congrats. A Giant Dog stole the show with their set, while Mirror Travel may have given some voters buyer’s remorse. Magna Carda is hip-hop in Austin; go see them.

Date Friday, December 6th
Location Mohawk
Doors 8:00 PM
Tickets $12 from Mohawk

Those of you in need of a great show to take a friend to have got to hit up the Friday night extravaganza at Mohawk.  You’ll be treated to one of Austin’s most consistent groups, The Octopus Project, who continue to exhilarate audiences in the live setting.  Plus, you’ll get a chance to see one of the bands that I’m expecting huge things from in 2014, Tele Novella. They’ve got the songs to back up that hype, at least if you’ve heard the band’s recent work over on their bandcamp page. Then, you’ll also get treated to Borrisokane, which guarantees you a night filled with blissful pop and smiles to go around. If this incredible weather holds up, you better find yourself here…or else!
