Another local band on Daytrotter this week!?  Touchdown!  We generally stay away from posting about Daytrotter twice in a week, but we couldn’t resist when we saw a session with Austin boys Brazos posted today.  The set features 3 old tunes and one previously unreleased track which you can find below.  Apparently the track is an older one that never got laid down to tape.

It’s always an anxious evening when you are preparing to see one of your favorite bands for the first time.  Will they play your favorite song?  Will the show resemble the album precisely as you want it to sound?  Will you walk away with the same respect as the moment you entered?  Such were my thoughts as I spent Friday night preparing to see Ola Podrida at the Mohawk.  The bill included Martin from Brazos and local favorites Balmorhea.  Follow the jump for review and show pictures.

Mohawk is the place to be on Friday night if you’re a fan of some of the bands on our very own local label Western Vinyl.  Headliners Balmorhea will be sharing the stage with our new favorite band Ola Podrida.  Fellow Martin Crane of Brazos will be playing solo and opening things up.

Brazos has long been one of our favorite Austin bands, so we were excited to have some new music from the guys drop into our inbox today.  This new track is called “Day Glo” and will appear on the locals upcoming album Phosphorescent Blues which hits stores Nov 24th on Autobus Records.  We’ve been giving this one some heavy rotation on our itunes today.

I hope you’ve heard that indie radio station Woxy is making a move to Austin and plans to start broadcasting and setting up live sessions in the live music capitol.  We couldn’t be more excited to welcome the crew to town!  To celebrate their arrival, the station is putting on one hell of a party at Scoot Inn on Sunday evening.  The lineup features up and comers Black Before Red, English Teeth, TV Torso, and Martin Crane of Brazos.  You can also expect some sweet drink specials and BBQ, Sweet Leaf Tea, and Titos Vodka.  Sunday evening never looked so promising.

Last night inside the crowded, flood of sweat called Mohawk was a night of music that makes me proud to be an Austinite.  Martin Crane (from Brazos), Megafaun, and the Bowerbirds packed a full house and did not upset.  There were no disappointments and plenty of surprises, but you’ll have to keep reading to find out. Option numero dos for Friday shows sees new local favorite Shearwater returning to town for a show at The Mohawk.  Tickets are very cheap, running at only $8.  Doors for the show open at 8pm and music starts shortly after with sets by Black Before Red followed by Brazos.  We’ve given this band all kinds of praise this year (including sneaking into the top 10 albums of the year) so we of course think this will be a good one.
