Jana Horn Shares the Dream

The latest single from our friend Jana Horn was everywhere yesterday, but seeing as we love her work and craft, we’ve got to do our part and make sure our three readers also are aware of it. For me, the arrangement of this song really won out from the start; I love the careful twang of the strings as the drum quietly rolls over the hills and into the song, slowly plodding along as various other elements fill in the gaps. Jana’s fragile vocal delivery is always enchanting, and according to Horn, the song came across “as a sample to the whole,” referencing the song’s place in the arc of her new record. Don’t be a dummy; grab The Window is the Dream on April 7th via No Quarter. I’ve also included an image of me asking Jana how awesome the new record was going to be, but you’ll have to grab it to find out her response…maybe on Bandcamp Friday.

Alvvays Release Easy On Your Own

Listening to this new Alvvays tune really illustrates why the group have continued to rise in prominence through their career. With each album, they’ve taken some touchstones from their first effort, though they’ve spun them towards being crossover pop hits at the same time. This latest single is no different, filled to the brim with noise and distortion, then balanced on a razor’s edge with a smashing blast of pop; the sheer volume work here is definitely an added tool, illustrating the band’s thoughtfulness in recording as they toy with the expectations of breaking out of the indiepop mold. Blue Rev will be out in October via Polyvinyl.

Zero Percent APR Drop Halbum LP

Let’s not beat around the bush here, Zero Percent APR is the alter ego of our favorite Austin ghouls, Being Dead; you might remember we helped the band put out this rad EP a few years back. Well, their here today to bewitch you with their Halloween album, just out on cassette via Spared Flesh Records. This collection of themed music still has the same experimentation and devilish humor that the band always utilizes in their work; it still has me wondering why they aren’t the biggest band in the world right now? Seriously, how is a band with these gifts and a rocking live show not bigger than Shakey Graves? I have no idea, but Halbum is a fun collection of tunes from the ZPAPR, something for you from the underworld.
