Crunchy Rocker from Cherry Glazer

cherryDon’t think just because I’m loving my wintery tunes at the moment that I don’t appreciate a solid rock number, like this new single from Cherry Glazer.  The group have just announced that they’ll be releasing their debut, Haxel Princess, on Burger Records, which will hit stores on January 14th.  I like the sound of the female vocal working against the guitar in this song.  There’s a softness that fits nicely against the jagged edges of said guitar that really gets me, emotionally speaking.  Hope to hear more rad tracks from the band in the future.

New Tune from Natural Child

Natural ChildOne of my favorite bands, Natural Child, is back at it again, with news rolling around today that the band is going to be releasing Dancin with Wolves via Burger Records on February 25th.  If you haven’t caught their live show, you’re missing out on something special, but I’ve also been impressed with their recorded material over the last two albums.  They combine what you’d expect from Southern influenced rock, but they do it with a tried and true formula cut in the dirtiest clubs across America.  Don’t be the last one to get on this train to sweet rock n’ roll.

Great New Tune from Gap Dream

gapdreamIt’s great to see artists change and grow, much like the project of Gap Dream.  Just because something is associated with Burger Records, it doesn’t mean that you’re going to get a sound like much of the label (which we like, btw). This song has this sprawling electronic influenced tune, washed over with careful elements of atmospheric noise.  I particularly like the fact that you can really attach yourself to the lyrics here, as they’re offered up slow and careful.  The new album is titled Shine Your Light, and it will be released by Burger on November 26th.  Sure sounds good to me.

Dark Noise Pop from Vaadat Charigim

vaadatIf you’re a native speaker of English, don’t let that fact that the lyrics here are hard to understand sway you from appreciating an incredible track.  Tel Aviv’s Vaadat Charigim are clearly singing in their own native tongue, but musically they’re crafting something that feels right at home with the musical landscape we all adore.  Guitars work against each other, leaving a brooding darkness, while the lyrics seem to burst and drop from the forefront of the track.  It’s noisy and pretty, which are all things we enjoy here at ATH. They’ll be releasing The World is Well Lost via Burger Records on November 12th.

Fun Garage Pop From The Rich Hands

the-rich-hands-imageI know very little about San Antonio based group The Rich Hands, though I feel a little embarrassed since they live just down the road from us.  My ignorance aside, I’ve found myself taken almost immediately to the band’s sound and style.  Below you can get a taste of what I’m talking about with “Never Let You Go”, which displays a keen since of pop music with some dirty garage overtones.  They remind me a lot of ATX/Houston friends Young Girls so of course I’m in for that.

The band has a new LP Dreamers out now on tape via Burger Records.  Vinyl copy is due out next month on the same label.

Rad Rock from The Memories

347I’ve been jamming to the Memories for a good bit of time, but this new tune is really unexpected, in a good way.  Personally, I like the humor in this track, which isn’t entirely new, yet the overall attitude of the track is much more relaxed.  Of course, I can also relate to all those girls who don’t speak Spanish; it’s a big deal for RayRay and myself.  The group’s got a new record coming out on Burger Records; it’s titled Love is the Law and it will see a release date of July 23rd.  Just another great installment in this group’s growing career.

Power Pop Fun with Wyatt Blair

wyattblairOne of the great things about hitting up a show is discovering an act you knew little about, which happened to me recently when I stumbled into the power-pop delight that is Wyatt Blair while hanging at Hotel Vegas. The band’s set was lively and quick, giving the audience enough time to sink our teeth’s into the tunes, yet wanting more.  So I got more when I picked up the new album, Banana Cream Dream, and I’ve been rocking it ever since.  The record’s filled with tunes that combine ballsy garage rock with sugary pop, which just happens to be my favorite kind. Give it a listen!

More New Music from Mozes and the Firstborn

mozesA few weeks back I brought you “I Got Skills,” a mellow jam from Mozes and the Firstborn.  Now, they’ve got another new single with an accompanying video; it has the same swagger and cool that I enjoyed from the first single.  It’s the perfect pop song, with some hammering on the keys, shaking percussion and a solid melody that harkens to sunny days.  The group’s self-titled album is out now on cassette from the folks over at Burger Records, but you can also grab it from the band HERE.  Oh, and check out the video for this tune; it’s shows what appears to be a day in the life of MFB.

Mozes and The Firstborn Have Skills

artworks-000046961608-2br5ga-t500x500Just this last week the folks over at Burger Records released a cassette from Dutch band Mozes and the Firstborn.  I like how the group opens up this lead single by jumping right into the chorus, than going backwards by offering up the verses.  The vocals remind me of Austin’s The Strange Boys, those there’s a different folk spin on the group’s approach.  A relaxed pace and a catchy chorus make this song worthy of repeat listens throughout your day, which will hold true for the band’s self-titled cassette.  It’s available now, so do what’s good for you and pick it up.

Bright New Music from Dead Ghosts

252We just got sent this new tune from Dead Ghosts, and it’s a shimmering piece of psych pop.  The vocals are a little bit skewed in the mix, intentionally done I’m sure, but I really dig the work of the drumming and the guitars.  It’s something I would imagine could have rocked many a club no Haight-Ashbury in its hey-day, so if that’s your bag, then you’ll love this Canadian act.  They’ve just been picked up by Burger Records, who will be releasing their new album, Can’t Get No, on April 30th–just to add to the swelling hits being pushed by Burger in 2013. You likes?
