A few years ago there was this wave of folk/Americana being remained and tossed out left and right. Bands like Fleet Foxes and Cave Singers dominated my own personal listening playlists, but the genre hasn’t really hit me again until I heard this track from Greylag, who’ve just signed to Dead Oceans. They’ve got similarities to both previously mentioned groups, with the instrumentation resembling the former and the vocals harkening to the latter. Their album will be self-titled, and it’s set for an October 14th release…should make great times for fall listening.
As previously mentioned, we’re overly excited about getting our Lost in Austin takeaway videos back off the ground and running. Our first subject in the relaunch featured Cave Singers and we shared the first part of that video series last week. Today we’ve got part 2 and we couldn’t be happier with the way things turned out. Follow the jump for video.
Wow, it’s been way too long since we’ve managed to shoot one of our world famous Lost in Austin videos with Guerilla Waltz. Almost a year to be exact, since we last ran the incredible video of Suckers at Red 7. Well today is a turning point in the series, as we jump start a new era for our takeaway videos with longtime ATH favorite Cave Singers. Follow the jump for full description and video.
The weather was beautiful in Austin on Saturday night and the setting was perfect for a much anticipated show by Seattle’s own Cave Singers. Though the crowd may have been a bit thin due to so many shows going on around town, it seemed like everyone in attendance agreed that the band killed it. Follow the jump for a few quick thoughts.

Saturday night is a great night for shows in Austin and it seems like you’ve got tons of options with all types of genres represented. Yes even the ATH crew will be split up all over town, but this guy will be heading over to Red 7 for a show by long time favorite of mine Cave Singers. Providing worthy support in an opening bid you’ll get Bleeding Rainbow. Maybe we’ll see each other there?[audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/02_Swim_Club_1.mp3]

We ATH kids have always been huge fans of Cave Singers and the beautiful and gritty folk music they’ve been creating for the last 4-5 years. They seem to be one of those bands that might be considered under appreciated by many, as they seem to have a decent following, but not near the fan base you’d expect from such incredible music. That being said, you can imagine my excitement when my inbox had this new gem “Have to Pretend” waiting for me. It’s set to appear on the band’s upcoming album Naomi due out March 5th on Jagjaguwar.[audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/23acf41c-00c5-491c-8d4e-567cdce52777.mp3]

Creating a Top 50 Albums list is never easy. You have to battle with what you think the world believes, and what you truly believe in your heart, to be solid jams. We have even more trouble because we have to three writers, all who have different ideas, and we have to make those ideas fit into a neat box. Well, we got it done, and honestly, our criteria was based on two things: how great we thought the album was, artistically speaking, and how long we listened to it without getting bored. That’s it. It’s fool proof; you might not like it, but it’s our list, so here it is… Read more

Not so much. The young Philly rockers pounded out a heart racing, feet stomping 1.5 hour set comprised of songs from their critically acclaimed albums ‘Fate’ and ‘We All Belong’, with a few gems from earlier releases. Follow the jump to read all about it, check out the setlist and see a handful of pics.
If you live here in Austin, tomorrow is one crazy day for live music options in our town. We’re not sure we can remember a day that was so packed as this one as far as music goes. So packed, in fact, that we can’t fit all these shows on our main page. Follow the jump to see full details on all the great shows going down Tuesday.
