Christelle Bofale Drops Brand New Single

A few years ago, Christelle Bofale seeming came out of nowhere and dropped this brilliant Swim Team EP in the middle of Austin that had me floored. She released her single “Miles” a bit ago, and we were more than happy to cover it then, but why not encourage you to enjoy the visual representation of the song. I love the solemnity of the solo scenes in the clip versus the joyousness of the group shots, perhaps a nod to the thematic element that our friends/communities give us life. Just felt like you should listen to this song as many times as possible, so here we are. And, if you haven’t heard Swim Team, now is as good a time as any to enjoy it…available from Father Daughter Records.

Brand New Christelle Bofale

Last year’s Swim Team EP put everyone on notice, in Austin and beyond, of the powerful force that is Christelle Bofale. She’s got this incredible voice, slightly smoky and able to stretch to the highest pitches effortlessly. This tune opens up steadily, with Bofale offering up her voice atop measured guitar notes; there’s a gentle change in the winds just at the 1:11 mark that really illustrates what a gifted songwriter Bofale is. Those winds blow further with this incredible vocal breakdown over muted guitars in the song’s last minute; you’re going to want to be sure that you stick around until the end. She’ll be performing at SXSW, so if you’re here, go ahead and pencil in a performance or two.

Collection of Best of Austin for 2019

Clearly, based on the name of our site, we’re always down to represent Austin, and while I feel like releases were down in the city this year, there was tons of great stuff to be devoured. Rather than rank and file our friends; we’re just here to uplift the scene, and maybe remind you of some Texas music that might have (it shouldn’t!) slipped under your radar. Black Pumas got the deserved love, but there’s tons bubbling beneath the surface. I mostly broke it into labels, as they’re the heart and soul of this city. Comes with a fancy playlist.

And, other people just keep pumping out hits. So hit the jump to check in on Austin with me.
