Cocktails Share Bun E. Carlos Single

One thing you’ve got to do if you’re going to reference Bun E. Carlos in a song title is you better make damn sure that your track’s catchy and full of pop hooks. Lucky for you and Cocktails, the band have concocted their own swaggering pop rock anthem, perfect for you to enjoy all those daydreams staring out your window wishing you were having fun down at the beach with your mates. Looks like Patrick gets a little vocal help from Lauren (of Seablite) and others to really blend that warm melody into the songs hook. If you want to turn it up and rock n’ roll, be ready to grab Catastrophic Entertainment, which drops on July 1st.

Bouncy Pop Number from Neutrals

If that bobbing bass line that opens up this new single from Neutrals doesn’t get you, then I think you might want to call a doctor. That didn’t work? Well, maybe take into account the group features members of Terry Malts, Cocktails and Giant Haysticks? That should do the trick. But, if you’re still struggling, then let the rhythm push you on, then await those circular guitar lines that up the ante on the songs natural enemy. You might get a little offset with the deadpan delivery of the vocals, but those of you with punk rock in your veins should be more than ok. With only a handful of demos to their name, Kebab Disco aims to be a pretty powerful debut; it’s available for pre-order from Emotional Response.

Cocktails Rock Another Hit

cocksThere’s got to be something going on out on the West Coast, especially in the Bay area.  They’ve got the garage rock and power-pop scenes locked down, and Cocktails is another one of those acts that’s doing things right.  The riffs within this track are perfect for turning up your stereo really loud, but the song still holds onto it’s pop attitude with the way in which the vocals are delivered.  You’ll be able to grab their newest release, Adult Life,  on June 17th from Father Daughter Records.

Fresh Jams from Cocktails

artworks-000076609654-3ntc1m-t500x500Ah. The great power of good old rock and roll.  Last night this track from Cocktails came into my inbox, and I’ve been rocking out to it ever since.  They’ve just wrapped up their new album, Adult Love, prepping it for a June 17th release date via our friends at Father Daughter Records.  The San Fran band recorded this gem with Rob Wood, who works in Warm Soda, so it’s no surprise that this is power-pop of the best sort.  You’ll find a solid melody working its way throughout the track, and enough energy to help you make it through the next hour as you continuously press repeat.  Let’s all rejoice in classic pop rock sounds!

SXSW 2014 Interview: Cocktails

601398_405080359582896_591050954_nI’m most definitely a sucker for some good crisp power-pop, which is one of the reasons I love the work of San Francisco’s Cocktails.  It doesn’t hurt that some of their work for Father Daughter Records was recorded by Matthew Melton of Warm Soda.  These guys are high up on my list of bands to catch at SXSW, and after reading a few words from the Patrick Clos and Lauren Matsui, maybe you’ll feel the same. Catchy New Power Pop from Cocktails

The last few years have seen bands reignite our love for pure honest rock n’ roll, so we’re glad to add another excellent act of that ilk to the mix: Cocktails.  They call San Francisco home, but the way that these hooks  dig their nails into you, I wouldn’t be surprised if they find themselves with a huge audience outside of their home city.  While the power-pop element survives in the track, I’m enjoying the gentle quality of the vocal delivery.  They’ll have a new 7″ EP coming your way on February 12th via Father Daughter Records, giving you all the more reason to get your hands on a very limited run!
