Nova One Shares Violet Dreams Video

Perhaps the visual aesthetic and influences of Roz Raskin harken to 60s pop, but the feel of Nova One‘s “Violet Dreams” seems every bit steeped in the current climate we’ve been in for the last few years. There’s this almost slow-moving trait to the track, like the song got stuck in some time warp and slowly spins in this galactic haze. I love the way Raskin’s voice seems to have this purposeful emphasis on various syllables, as if each note carries a secret only evident to the narrator. It’s a subtle song, staring off into the horizon of the unknown with the rest of us. This song appears on Lovable, which drops on April 24th via Community Records.

Check Out Matt Surfin and Friends

Pedro the Lion came back this year, and if David needed an up-and-coming young act to turn to on tour, then he should look at Matt Surfin’ and Friends. On this number Matt has his friend Rui Gabriel singing the verses in Portuguese, but it’s his whispered tones that seem most like they were meant for a fireside chat. In the music you have the same vibe; it simple and understated, though it carries this natural melody that ultimately endears it to listeners. You want old school Pedro? Go here instead, and look for the self-titled LP via Community Records/Muscle Beach.

Throwback Rocker From Coaster

unnamedToday seems like a great day for some straight up rock music from Chicago based band Coaster. Their new track is called “Cool” and brings to mind some of indie rocks old school greats while mixing in some complex break downs and intricateguitar work. And damn those vocals at the end! Hopefully this will improve what might be a dreary Monday for most of us. Enjoy.

Coaster is dropping a new 7″ EP entitled Deuces on November 11th via Community Records& Sooper Records.

Pop Tune from Sun Hotel

sunneeI’m pretty sure the award for longest song title of 2015 is going to go to Sun Hotel, but dammit if it’s not just a great song to listen to any time of the day.  There’s an urgency in the guitar playing, and something I’m finding quite relatable in the way the vocals are delivered; it sort of reminds me of a calmer version of art-rockers Ought.  Sadly, it sounds like their new effort, Rational Expectations, might be their last as members are slated to move on to new projects; I’ll still enjoy this when it comes out via Community Records on February 3rd.
